Update

I am picking up my car this weekend and will be driving form Ohio to Alabama (about 1000 miles). Maybe during this trip the noise will go away, or get worse. I guess we will have to find out. Hopefully the car makes it back without any issues.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem or does anyone else have any suggestions as to what I should do next, in order to get this addressed? How can mitsubishi claim that a noise that comes and goes is simply normal??!!!!There has to be something that can be done to fix this. Help anyone!!!!

Buscher Racing 350 Kit Update and mysterious noise update

Here we go:

Ok so I picked up my car on friday from the dealer (It had been there 5 weeks) I proceed to take it back to my dads (I live in Alabama, so I am staying at my fathers for the weekend) and the noise is still there!!! Now the dealership mechanics and everyone who "inspected" my car all came to the conclusion that the noise was "normal". So my decision to pick it up was partly out of frustration and partly to see if It would simply make the 1000 mile trip back home.

The car performed great for the whole trip, minus the mysterious "noise", everything else was as it should be.

For those of you who do not know I have the second serial numbered BR350 kit (and the first one to go on a MR) As far as the kit is concerned, I cannot be happier!! It performs perfectly and there is definitely an obvious power increase throughout the gears. This is definitely not the same car I bought from the dealer 2 months ago!!! The exhaust is loud but not annoying, very mean grumble. Anyone who wants specific pictures of the kit or has any questions please feel free to PM me and I will try my best to answer them.

So my issue now is to simply live with the noise and enjoy the performance of the car, and wait until the tranny goes out to finally get someone at Mitsubishi to replace the thing. (Only 3400 miles on the car)

Dave and the guys at Buscher Racing, I really appreciate the mods and congrads on a job well done. Very pleased with the results. (Dave:now how do we get it to 400 hp and a daily driver

I forget what is included in the BR350, but I assume all you'll need next to get to 400bhp is a set of cams and any other minor bolt-on that isn't included in the BR350.

Cams, cam gears, boost control. I can't believe that package has ported mani, o2, and turbo, but has no boost control, unless it's included in the flash. Maybe it was a part that the Mitsu dealer wouldn't allow, since it would make it much easier for buyers to destroy the engine.

Anyway, since that 350 is crank HP, I think cams, cam gears, and an MBC set to 20-21psi would get you to 400 crank hp or very close.

BTW, Roll Tide!

To get some amount of tranny whine is normal ... every stick shift performance car I've driven has had a noisey drivetrain, including my MR ... This car is going to be loud unlike most luxury/econo cars out there .... tranny and exhaust noise is to be expected ... I wouldn't worry about it, if your tranny has been taken apart and inspected to be fine ...

I had a similar noise with the RSX tranny that I swapped into my si. Did Mitsu check the bearings inside the tranny? Hard to believe that they could have worn out in 2k miles but I guess anything is possible.

2005BR350MR, why dont you give Jon@TRE a call. He is the man with trannies and I know he has some experience with the MR/EVO trannies. Maybe he has a better idea of what it could be. Sounds weird and annoying. Im **** about noises, but at least the car is performing well.

Thanks I really appreciate the advice. Now its just a matter of the warranty, before I go ahead and go for the 400+ HP.

BTW, I am originally from Ohio so I lean towards the Buckeyes more than the Tide, Go Bucks!!

Update

The noise still comes and goes, but the car seems to respond and drive great. It's just so darn annoying when it happens that you want to simply stop driving. I hope Mitsubishi figures out what the cause of this is. "Normal" to me doesn't come and go away randomly.

Not sure why you are having transmission noise but I have an MR and I don't experience any noise with mine.

Did they even bother to do a transmission flush and start with some fresh fluid to see if that might fix the problem? I heard from someone that Mitsubishi just release a new OEM fluid for the 6 spd. transmissions.

Worth a shot to at least have the dealership flush out the fluid and start with some fresh fluid to see if that helps.
