How does a broken rod sounds like?
can you tell if there's a broken rod in your motor by looking at the spark pluggs? or even by doing compression check?
Please explain how broken rod sounds like...
thanks

Never experienced one, but it would prolly sound like your car is falling apart. Just imagine your crankshaft spinning and the broken rod moving up and down and all around tearing your engine a new a$$hole....a.k.a ALOT of bad noise.

dude..if the rod is broken the piston doesn't move...it would more than likely fly up and smash your valves, spark plug, ect. You would know if the car was running on 3 cylinders...I hope.

Hole in the block or out the bottom of the oil pan. Piston could have borken into pieces and fallen down into the oil pan in which case no external hole would have been created. However the spark plug would have been annihilated. Motor would have no comp. in that cyl. Drain check plugs, do comp. check, then drain the oil. Do in that order and if you have busted up piston, bent rod, bent valve, etc you will find out.

sounds like a spun bearing on the rod had a friends honda do that when he tried to keep with my turbo'ed hatch over reved one too many times. sounds like a machine hammer when you rev it. just enough space between the crank and rod to be noisy and destroy the crank and rod but not enough to be noticed with out taking the motor to parade rest.
except the noise of course.

Spun bearing....I had that on my 280zx from over revving the tired motor. Stretched the rod bolts, spun a few bearings. Caused a deep clunking noise in the engine. Get yourself a long socket extension, put it down low on the block and the other end on your ear like a stethescope with the engine running. It will help eliminate where the noise is coming from because you will hear the ticking stronger at its origin. Try putting it on the heads too, find out where it is the loudest, up top, or down low.
I have blown a rod on a go-cart I once had when I was a kid. Threw it straight out the side of the block producing a hole about 6" BOOM and that was it.
