First Mods for newbie?
hello evo community! I have been reading these forums getting information for about a month now and have gathered some valuable information. I put in a new K&N intake a few days ago, and after racing and disposing of a C5 corvette today, I am fired up about modding my car. What should be my next steps in terms of mods. Downpipe, 02 housing, exhaust, boost controller. Need to take some baby steps here after unloading lots of cash to buy this thing. I just want to keep pecking away and making my car faster little by little. Thanks to everyone and I look forward to being a member for a long time!
Do the complete exhaust next.
Catback, testpipe, downpipe. Don't worry about the o2 housing, that is not worth much power if anything at all.
Then boost gauge/boost controller (I recomend hallman manual controllers)
The next step is some tuning..either an AFC or reflash.

Also, I have a Autometer boost gauge that came with the car. Im only showing 14 psi at 3200 or so till redline. Thought these cars boosted at 18 psi? Is this a faulty gauge, or is this a typical showing on a car with only an intake. I noticed the boost did not increase with the intake. Thanks for the info.
Yep, DSM has it... except you might want to get a Boost Gauge first... just in case... and then the rest of the stuff. Exhaust does wonders!
My car was doing that too... it should be 18.7 stock if it's an '03, if it's only 14 in all the gears the boost solenoid might have a problem, all I did was get a manual boost controller and that fixed it right up.

like dsmotorsport said, catback intake should be good. i have a real nice catback for sale. check out my thread https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=146632
you might have a boost leak, do a pressure check and see if you find anything. If you beat a C5 corvette with only 14psi that guy must not have been racing.
The next mod I would go with is a MBC, its less then $100 and will give you 20-30whp by eliminating boost taper, its an excellent mod.

Trending Topics
#1- Make sure you do not have any boost leaks and everything else is running properly.
#2- Practice launching and shifting, I don't want to hear how disappointed you are about your EVO after running 13.4@112MPH with a 2.4 60FT
#3- Get a Turboback Exhaust, I repeat get a full Turboback Exhaust. You will gain a lot of power from this. A Catback system is also nice and you will see a noticeable power improvement, but a full Turboback system for maximum gain.
#4- Get a Manual Boost Controller, or even nicer a Electronic Boost Controller. Still a Manual Boost Controller is inexpensive and get's the job done.
With these two performance items, your EVO is starting to turn into an animal. Stock (with intake) a run in (from a roll) with an I/H/E/Hondata RSX Type S would of gave you a heart attack! If you weren't on the top of your game, that pesky RSX Type S might surprise you. With those two mods you should pull atleast three cars on I/H/E/Hondata RSX Type S.
#5- Get a Flash or Piggyback ECU tuning. Go for a custom flash, to maximize your power increase. A good tuning could net you 20-30WHP, or another two cars on that pesky RSX Type S.
#6- Fuel pump, keep things safe.
#7- One of my favorites, CAMS! Get cams and now it's just OVER for that I/H/E/Hondata RSX Type S
, instant ownage. Go with what ever combination suits you best, but get CAMS and your EVO is officially an animal. You should be able to go to the strip and run 12.2-12.7@109-113MPH depending on how good of a driver you are (If you had a 2005 results would be different). You may even want to get re-tuned for the Cams, or you can wait till after you put on more mods.
#8- From here it's up to you, there are lots and lots of different routes you can take such as alcohol kits, TME Turbo or White Rabbit, or intercooler upgrades, suspension upgrades, clutch upgrades, or GT35R Turbo upgrade, or etc., the list goes on and on with what you can do with your EVO, it's up to you. Happy tuning.

I agree with chase2000qt. I was looking at the RSX S when I was shopping for my EVO. Those cars are light but have no power. You have to squeeze the power out of them. you have to whine the car out to past 7k to get the power out of it.
how do i check for a leak in my system. Car runs solid, idle ok. Doesn't seem to be a leak anywhere and it is plenty fast. I have heard a guy from the DSM community say the Autometer gauges are crap. Any truth to this?
