Talking Another Happy JDM MR Diverter Valve owner

Ever since I got my Evo, I felt like the car had a boost leak somewhere. It spooled slower than I had anticipated, and once it did spool up, I felt it hesitate slightly as it accelerated - almost like it was running too rich or had a slight bit of spark blow out. I first guessed it was the notoriously rich tune from the factory, and threw some parts (turbo back, K&N) at it to see if that would help - no dice. After inspecting all of my piping and finding nothing, I began to suspect the diverter valve, as many others reported theirs to leak. Being a true DSM owner, I pined for a cheap solution. I was tempted by the dual vent APS valve, but I ordered a Japanese Evo MR diverter valve from www.lancershop.com for the small price of 130 shipped, about half the cost of the APS valve.

Upon recieving it, I attempted to push the valve open with my meager hands - no dice. Seems like it will hold a decent amount of boost.

In 10 minutes, I had the old one out and the new one installed. After pulling the plastic stocker out, I performed the same test of pushing on the valve and found it opened much easier than the MR valve.

Once installed, I took it for a drive. I had heard from a couple people that they had idling/stalling issues with this valve, but I appear to have fallen in the majority catagory who did not have this issue. The results? The turbo seems to spool faster, and hit harder. Once spooled, the mysterious hesitation I experienced before is now non existant. It now pulls cleanly to redline.

It seems my problem is finally solved. Now I can move on to installing my Helix air intake, Walbro pump, and have the ECU reflashed. This should keep me happy for awhile.

Just thought you guys would be interested in it.

Yes I totally agree with you. This mod is definately worth the money for those still using the plastic stock DV. I'm not sure how this will cause stalling issues as I'm untuned currently and running this DV with my HKS RS intake and still don't stall. With an intake, this piece sounds pretty good too for a mitsubishi factory part. Highly recommended.

i think thats the best part, the fact that its OEM and a cheap solution.

My car just feels much better with this valve installed. I'm relieved that it was fixed this easily
