more TQ than WHP?

Just wondering about this today.

Some people have more TQ than WHP and some the other way.

Why would tuners do it this way?

It is mostly to do with the type of dyno...

hey, I'm gonna come up to your shop in a bit with Taylor and Todd.

anyway, I didn't know that it's due to the dyno...

Would be interesting for me to come up and check out your dyno. I know you have the dyno research.

I'm just wondering, because I have 304 whp 314 tq now, and before it was 290 something and 280 something tq.

It's a lot more complicated than that. If two motors have the same power, but one has more torque, generally that one will be able to stay in its power-band longer, which is especially effective with wider gear ratios.

A little extra torque can make a car a lot quicker.

For best overall accelleration you just want the most horsepower under the curve possible. A little extra torque helps you fatten up the horsepower curve so that this is easier to acheive. They are directly related.

On a side note, if the torque peak is after 5252 RPM, it will never be higher than the horsepower peak ... by definition.

yeh, i've been wanting to go up there since last year, just never got around.

But really, I want to see if it's the tuning more than the dyno... I'm not complaning, I like my setup now, it's not too much, not too little, but I would like some more oomph, up high in the RPM's for auto-x and few other things.
