Unhappy Turbotrix tune+272/272 Cams+Troubleshooting help!!

well, the guys at Turbotrix have proven once again to be a great shop with great people. They installed my GSC 272/272 cams in less than 2 hours - on to the Dyno and.....oh boy.

Much to both my and their disappointment, I only was able to make 298 WHP and 314 TQ. See mod list below.

This was on 93 octane- at 21psi.

Mark popped on one of of his boost guages since mine as acting a little sticky.

We tightened the BOV to make sure it wasn't leaking....but no love.

Boost holds with no problem....and since it was the end of the day- we decided to call it quits.

Now, I did see a sizeable increase from my previous Dyno without the cams- in fact I picked up about 35 WHP. but something is wrong. With these mods I should be making 330-350 with a good tune.

I have had s sneaking suspesion that it is the turbo going- as it has been making a light siren noise under litght boost. You can hear it from about 3K to 5K and it sounds like there is a cop about a half mile behind me. It's not loud, but it's definitely the turbo.

I suppose I could just get another TD05HR-16G - but, i was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what the HP robber could be if it's NOT the turbo- but if it is.....then what should i step up to? This is my daily driver and I would like to have anywhere from 350-400 WHP.

Once again- my hats off to the guys at Turbotrix as they really tried to nail the problem down and as soon as i figure it out- it's back to them for a re-tune.

Thanks all.

boost leak?

Quite possible-
but if I did- would my guage still show the 21psi and holding?

OR- if there was a leak, would the turbo just push harder to compensate for the pressure i was releasking into the anmosphere- thus making less power?

I think Dynoflash explained it somewhere, But he said that even a little pinhole boost leak will hold 21Psi . It just making Everything work harder to do so, in result causing low power and problematic troubleshooting. I would find his post where he details a lil bit clearer and do a Complete Boost leak test. Oh and report back your findings so that everyone else knows what happened

This is more than likely what your looking at, if the theory is correct.

boost leak check

Will do-
I plan on making one of these simple kits to connect to the turbo tomorrow and see if i find anything.....I'm sure that I will.

however, I don't think the noise I'm hearing comes from a boost leak. When I have the intake off, i am going to get a good look at the turbine wheel and make sure I'm ok there first.

thanks for them help

Hey john..

check out that turbo for sure .. but in the meantime,, remember we had that problem with that one sensor on our dyno.. well im starting to think its not reading right. We have a new one coming in on monday, the guy after you , after cam install and a custom flash from someone else, baselined at 260whp.. Granted he had 264's and a highflow.. i thought it was pretty low. Im going to change the part out tomm, keep me posted

Thumbs up

Mark-
yeah, that does sound low- I too raise an eyebrow to that sensor-

I suppose that I am partially relieved that it may not be the car- but nonetheless, I am going to do a turbine check and a boost leak check as well.

Let me know if you have any further devleopments on the Dyno's "health" and I too will keep you posted on my findings under the hood-

Once again- big props to you guys- always a great deal of help and customer service is second to none
