Check Engine Light
Check Engine Light
I have a 2003 Evo with 28k mi on it.
My car has a history for CEL on and turning itself off weeks later.
It usually happens when I need to do Engine Oil Change. For the last 2 times it happend, the CEL was off days after I did oil change.
This time, it is on again. I did oil change 2 weeks ago but it's still on.
I just want to know
1) Does EVO ECU have this feature to periodically check if the engine needs oil change, and turn the CEL if oil change is needed?
2) If EVO doesn't not have the above feature, can I assume something is wrong with my ECU?
3) I heard I can reset the ECU to turn off the CEL, is that true?
PS : I don't push my car oftern. Maybe go up to 5K when I am on freeway, once in a while.
Thanks a lot!

1. if the oil is low, yes, not when you need change.
2. no, you could assume that you're probably getting misfire. should goto the dealership and pull that code.
3. yes, reset by resetting battery or the ecu power supply. but should have the code looked at it at mitsu dealership or pepboys.

My car used to do that as well and then the dealership said I had the parameters all screwed up(Mind you my car was stock) so they said they did a flash to update the parameters and now my car doesnt pull as much as it used to ...
Ohh and my car has about 23k miles

yes if you diconnect the negitave battery cable it will reset your ECU and i THINK it will turn off your cell light. i know my buddy was throwing a cel when he put his cat delete pipe on. he reset the ECU and it never came back on

Thanks guys.
What I would do is to reset the ECU by disconnecting the power supply. If the CEL turns back on, then I will bring it to the dealer to pull the code. I just think it's ridiculous that the dealer chages me 200 bucks for reading the damn code. How hard is that? just plug the instrument in the port and get the reading..
I can do it at Pepboys too?
