264s vs 272s
I have an opportunity to get some used HKS 264s for very cheap. I'm debating whether I should cough up extra money for new GSC 272s....
How much of a top end horsepower advantage am I looking at with the 272s over the 264s? Conversely, how much low end horsepower am I looking at with 264s vs. 272s?
I don't really autocross that much, and I've never roadraced, and soon the car will not be a daily driver, so the idle/stalling issues won't matter much. I'm leaning towards the 272s, but if the power difference is negligible, I'll get the 264s and save 2-300 bucks.
My mods are: 3" TBE w/ cat delete, Helix Intake, Dynoflash mail-in, Hallman MBC, Walbro fuel pump. A bigger turbo could be in the future, but distant future at best.

Search in the dynoflash forum , Al has 2 dynosheets same mods but one is 264's and one is 272's and the powerband looks very much the same . IMO 264's !

I also have the 272s, and I got them in a similar situation to yours, ie new/used for a great price. I was going to go for 264s until I saw the deal. I'm glad I did now, because I'm planning on a bigger turbo within a year or so, and the general consensus is that the 272s are better for that. As far as power, they're definitely strong up top, and I don't feel (butt dyno) like I've sacrificed anything down low. I've never run 264s, so I can't comment on the difference, but if people can't really prove there's a big difference, then go for the good deal.
in the grand scheme of things, if you are ultimately going to do more modifications to your car, then the 272's are the way to go...if you are going to stick with only certain modifications (exahust, BC, cams) then the 264's arent a bad option...i like the sounds of the 272's personally. you said you dont plan on auto x or anything like that, so i believe you like the straight drag...go 272s in that case.

272's if you want good top end with good drag strip times and 264's for autocross and just a little bit better idle...like the others said..if you plan on more mods and a bigger turbo in the future go 272's....272's are fun on the highway and if one of those v8's want to give you a test...good way to show rear lience plates
I've been trying to make the same decision as well. In sumation, it seems that 264s have a great idle. 272s have more up top. HKS Runs 272 on most of there road race cars. Apex'i had a 264i 272e set up. Vishnu also likes this set up. Buscher has done some pretty good tests with 280s (although not my choice) and likes them. RMR has used 272s. RRE has used 272s. Just observations. FWIW.

dang, what a quandry it is...I probably won't be getting a larger turbo for quite some time, if at all, but I don't want to lose out on top end power. I usually just do highway pulls against friends/other cars. Sounds like 272s are the ticket, but it's more money
