It would seem 5000 miles isn't to bad for that kind of use.

When my stocker goes, I'm just going to get the ACT street setup.

I don't launch, I just drive in a spirited manner, and like canyon roads.

BTW... Haven't decided on the Flywheel yet.

No misunderstatement taken. Trust me, I was surprised too about the clutch after I saw what it looked like. When I race it though, I drive it like I stole it.

I don't want to get into ACT vs. Exedy clutches either. I know people who run the ACT clutch on their car and I just happen to be an Exedy guy. Anytime I've dealt with them, they've been awesome. Customer service is top notch!! They've won my brand loyalty.

I totally understand. I wish more customers would think like that (especially our customers). I don't try to talk someone out of another brand. That's poor taste. After all we are a good customer of Exedy too. I believe the phrase, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you".

and just how often did you slip this clutch? to have it go after only 5k miles, doing 12 sec runs, it just seems a little... weak.

It wasn't the clutch being weak. In my opinion, it was the fact that a lot of vendors advertise these clutches and other brand clutches with false holding power. My car simply was making more horse power than this clutch could hold. When I bought it, it was advertised by a vendor claiming it can hold 450-497 lbs of torque. This is definately not the case. According to Exedy, this clutch is good for about 350 lbs. Unfortunately there are a lot of vendors of selling clutches giving out bad information. Somebody with the appropriate horse power level would love this clutch. It was a little grabby, but awesome for the track!

As far as heat... I've got that beat. We have these parts in our "hall of shame". Here is what happens when bad things happen to good clutches. Enough heat got into the disc that it melted the spring steel drive plate and the pucks flew off. The pucks were found smashed together in the starter pocket of the transmission.

Not mine. It was a customers car. This was on Roger Scalise's 3000lb Honda (show/drag car with Turbo Prelude engine and lots of stereo crap) back before they came out with all the good axles and stuff. I don't remember all the specifics, but I think it had to do with launching in 2nd by slipping the daylights out of the clutch to prevent breaking axles. That was not such a good idea!

Wow! That guy definately has me beat for most roasted clutch. I can't imagine what the flywheel and other parts of the clutch looked like if that is what the disc looks like.
