Penzoil Syncomesh Destroying my Tranz?

?Ummm i just got a evo 7 trans in my evo and the first couple of days the trans was silent!

I put the Penzoil syncromesh in the trans and a week later its whining in 1st gear now. very low whine but it wasnt there the first couple of days then i noticed it when i was pulling into my driveway. ALSO i have an ACT clutch and its hard to shift into Reverse and 1st... I think im going to put stock fluid in and see if goes away anybody else have this problem?!

It was. about 30,000 miles. It was fine the first day! Now the shifting is hard when i am sitting still or barely moving.

Damn sorry to hear about that. I hope the stock fluid will fix it but I dont think there is much difference in the 7&8 trannies in terms what type of fluid to use. Goodluck.

I got synchromesh in my car for ~10,000miles. It replaced the redline oil in there, much smoother shifting after the changeover. I think the tranny u got was on its way out.

Call jon at TRE ( he uses the screenname GEARS on thi s site) he only recommends STOCK stuff, I didn't do stock until he said so on one of my threads, I dousched mine also a while ago Due to non-stock stuff, change it out of there pronto, and put in stock! good luck

I dought its the tranny fluid. I've had the same stuff in my tranny for 2k since my clutch install and its working great. Maybe the tranny was abused before you got it. First thing I'd try is to adjust ur clutch pedal.

Going from various blends of redline fluids to syncromesh GREATLY improved my shifter feel, I have some whine in 1st gear up until 2000 or so rpms, but then I always did.

How long have you had the ACT? mine was hard to get into first and reverse too, but after a few thousand miles(and the addition of the syncromesh, perhaps just a coincedance) it feels perfectly fine.
I know syncchromesh is a little "thinner" than the OEM stuff, that might make the trans a little noisier.

Does TRE recommend the stock stuff for the Trans.? I know they do for the transfer case, I haven't heard about the trans though.

yes he does! I had both redline in both, and my TC was shot and the tranny had issues. I drove the car after a clutch change, and the whine was there, so I pulled into Ann Arbor michigan mitshu dealer and told him to change both back to stock. the tranny fluid was like butter (after 200 miles) and then I called jon at TRE, and that is why I stick with the stock stuff! call or e-mail him, he will better clarify WHY, I am not that bright mechanically. good luck!

You need to drain that syncromesh crap, and install the DiaQueen or Redline.
