Even if he does, you'd have to go to the dealer to get the new ecu "sync'ed" with the immobilizer. This is why people gave up on the idea of having two ecus with different flashes on them.

If you really don't want to mail your ecu you have two choices: 1) Drive the car to be tuned (either locally or a visit close by from a traveling tuner), or 2) Buy a piggy-back or standalone for tuning. Unfortunately for option 2, the price is generally much higher than a mail-in flash.

I hope they look into something similar to hondata where all you need to do is swap an EEPROM IC to switch between maps. Could be integrated with a ROM burner via SW as well.

There's always the XEDE if you're that nervous.

Not to many problems with getting the ECU re-flashed. Just make sure you send it to a good tuner. I would trust my ECU with Turbotrix or Dynoflash. Both have a lot of experence with our cars. It is best to get a custom tune if possible. I know Turbotrix will be in Dallas in October sometime, check the south forums. That is a bit of a drive for you, but well worth the trip. I drove up to Dallas for the Turbotrix tunning last year from SA and it was worth the trip. Otherwise you can have them come to you if you get enough other people intrested. Mark will come if you get eight or more people intrested. Also AL does the same thing. Not sure how many he needs to make a trip. I would not worry to much about mailing in your ECU. Just make sure you pack it properly and put insurance on it.

I have done over 1,000 mail in flashes without incident. The flashing proces is very reliable.

The mail in flash is $199.99 plus shipping - details at ww.dynoflash.com

I will be in Austin Texas on August 27th if you want a custom tune or to get your base flashed installed on the spot.

I was also a little reluctant to the whole flashing thing myself. Now I'm getting a custom dynoflash next thursday and I can't wait. Al has tuned thousands of ecu's before so there's nothing to worry about.
