flash without sending ECU?

It really wouldnt be too difficult. All Al or any other tuner would have to do is sell the data cable and have a software engineer develop software to make the flash file proprietary. Then people who buy the data cables could simply email their desired flash through paypal with a payment. Or even better, users could select a flash based on mods through an online store tied in with paypal. The cost and time of doing business would decrease, prices could decrease along with it, and as such, the person that did this would have a strangle hold on the market, and probably sell more reflashes as a result.

But this is something I thought of while mowing the lawn, i have no first hand knowledge on how feasible this could be.

I would like the ability to revert to stock at anytime.

I had such a device for my M3 until I got it custom tuned.

There were devices like this out in the Mini Cooper world.

Then wouldn't everyone around the person who buys it just be leeching off him for free?

leeching use of the data cable, yes, but they'd still have to pay for the flash. Theorethically, if you had a group of friends, you could all pitch in on the cable to save costs, or if you have it, you could charge a small fee to use it.
