NOS as first mod?

i know this may be a stupid question but would it be safe to run like a 30 shot on an evo w/ intake, full exhaust and would it even be worth it? im coming form a big american muscle v8 camaro and sprayed a 150 on mine so i was just wondering if these cars coudl take it as well?

call it N2o or you can get flamed bro. NOS is a brand. but if you want it go for it. itll be fun. a lot of guys have it for spool up. you will get tons of different opinions

My $.02 is get a reflash. You'll have an extra 25-30hp peak and gain a lot more in the upper rpms. Plus, you don't have to refill a bottle and you can get it tuned to correct for the intake.

Yes, these cars will handle N2o just fine -- look at turbotrix car -- 9 seconds in the quarter mile

The car will handle it without a problem, however I'd invest in an exhaust and boost controller first.

I agree with what others have said so far. No problem with the nitrous on the evo but it wouldn't be my first mod. Intake, turbo-back, boost controller, fuel pump, and a reflash is the way to go. Once you have these basic mods you can decide where you want to go from there. Now some people are going to jump in here and tell you to get alcohol injection but they are clueless.

Running a single fogger wet nitrous kit on an Evo8 will work perfectly fine. I have run mine past 80hp shot so far on top of a 340whp engine. The stock engine has no trouble holding 450+whp reliably. nothing to worry about there.

I would recomend having a full exhaust system, fuel pump, boost controller, and wideband on the car to maximize the tuning. Every nitrous system Ihave installed stood to gain significant power from tuning with the jets, as the mfgr recomend jetting is normally stupid rich.

Don't run the nitrous with a reflash that wasn't specificly tuned with ntirous in mind. The ignition timing is advanced on most reflashes, and that might push you into detonation and significant power loss. 50hp nitrous is generally ok wihtout any specific tuning changes on the stock conservative tune, but I find more than 50-60hp of nitrous requires a degree or two of timing retard.

first three were 3inch exhaust, apexi safc and blitz EBC.
a 50hp wet shot is totally safe

What if the only time the nitrous was used on a regular flashed car was with 100 octane or better? Would there still need to be timing adjustments or would the extra octane take care of the possible knocking?

what about alcohol as well as nitrous?

I've been trying to decide which I want on my car. I come from domestics too and loved nitrous on the ol' push rod engine

Talking

Using nitrous with a reflash that was done for everyday pumpgas, but running 100 unleaded or even better, 116 octane leaded race fuel is probobly completely fine.

If find going from 93pumpgas to 116 racegas, I can add between 5* and 7* of timing without the nitrious. As I said before, about a 75shot would require only 1 or 2 of ignition retard.

so running a 75shot with a pumpgas reflash is well within my "guestimate" on high octane fuel.

Using alky or meth injection instead of racegas might work out ok, but man, your getting into alot of "sketchy to tune" variables. I would honestly keep it simple and try to run racegas with the nitrous at all times.

I am btw, (off this topic) thinking of building a secondary 1gallon fuel cell/pump/line /regulator to supply strait methanol to the fuel side of a direct port nitrous kit instead of tapping into the main gasoline fuel supply for some monster power gains on nitrous. Im going to get a little more serious with my nitrous setup on my evo...and might move to a standard direct 4 port kit, instead of the single fogger dry setup (I use the AEM EMS to increase injector duty for the extra fuel). That might allow use of a BIG 120-160hp nitrous shot on pumpgas without having the really screw with the EMS alot for timing and fuel trim.

Thanks for answering the question since you seem to be the only person willing to post about using nitrous in there setup. I would not plan on spraying on anything less than 100octane and I would also close the gap a litte on my plugs before running nitrous. I also already have a wideband in the car so it looks like I am all set. I think there are a lot of people on this board jumping on the alcohol bandwagon and son't realy know what is going on.
