Since of mechanic the only thing I know is change bolt-ons I have no idea what they did to my car, I only know it works like a charm and my car is now a totally different beast, specially on high boost and C16.
The mystery behind the magic is, as Ted B noted earlier, is moving the power curve up or down and/or maximizing the area under the curve for a particular cam/engine combo. Some people will change lobe centers on cams depending on the particular road course they are running and sometimes match it to gearing as well. The article quoted above is just about correctly installing a cam to factory spec rather than tuning the motor for a specific application.
BTW, I have been using adjustable cam gears since the mid 70's
, never had a failure - road, rally and track - and I wouldn't consider running a tuned engine without them.

As Randy has said - each car requires individulaized checking and adjustment of cam gears. They are NOT all the same. There is car to car variance.

I didn't believe it at first but after i saw the dyno results i was pretty impressed, harold can do his thing. I think is a little expensive but that's just me. Still, he woked his *** off and the torque and whp results were evident. I think for the cost, cam gears are a good thing to have in terms of tuning, plus i'm gonna be running 272's so in terms of idle, i'll need all the help i can get
