Clutch adjustment question

I have an act hdss clutch and fidanza flywheel in my car. Ive had them for about 6k miles. The clutch is not grabbing nearly as hard as it used to. Its not slipping yet, but its not grabbing very hard. Is this something that will be fixed with a clutch adjustment? And how much would you estimate the cost of a clutch adjustment to be? Thanks a lot.

a clutch adjustment is somehting you can do yourself very easily, there is a rod underneath the dash on the drivers side that you just twist in or out to adjust the clutch engagement. there should be a writeup somewhere on here to show you more details

Clutch pedal adjustment controls where the clutch grabs, not how hard. If your clutch doesn't grab till the very top of your clutch pedal travel, then adjustment should help. If your clutch grabs in the middle of the travel, then it wouldn't help.

Ah ok, so then is there any way to make the clutch grab harder, or would i have to buy a new pressure plate for that?

You can buy a 4 puck and it will grab really hard! I wouldn't recommend it. I guess the real question is does the clutch hold the power? We didn't design the street clutch to chirp the tires, but to handle increased torque. We have a heavier pressure plate available now but it still will not increase how hard it engages as much as it increases torque capacity. If you use an agressive disc (which will tend to chatter) then engagement will be more "grabby".

The problem im facing is the clutch isnt grabbing as hard as it used to. It isnt slipping, but it just isnt grabbing as hard as it did. I loved how it used to grab, but now it feels a little softer. Is there anything i can do to fix this?

It doesn't sound like it is broke, so I don't think you can fix it. The nature of any organic clutch is that it is more agressive before you break it in. Once broken in the coefficient of friction goes down, the diaphragm spring settles just a bit, and it should stay that way for the rest of the life of the clutch. It is difficult for me to say whether or not what you are experiencing is normal, but it doesn't sound unusual.

Have you taken the restrictor out of the hydraulics? If not, try it because the restrictor makes the clutch feel a lot like what you are describing. No matter how strong we make the clutch, it will not have the snap it could without the restrictor. Of course the restrictor is there to keep you from having that snappy engagement to prevent damage to other parts, so driver beware. You know the saying, "Be careful what you wish for. You just may get it".

I hope that helps.

Dirk,

I'm having problems quick shifting at high rpm. I have the ACT clutch. I've tried adjusting the clutch and changing tranny fluid but no help. Any suggestions? Can I adjust it any higher?

Thanks.
