best cam setup

I have stage 1 Vishnu. I'm looking for good gains for reasonable price, but first and foremost do NOT want rough idle/significant driveability penalty.

I've gotten recs for HKS 272/272 and 264/272.

Any feedback from folks with these or other set up/recs?

Thanks

If you don't want any type of hard idle, go with the GSC 264/264 setup. Great price and have proven to give large power gains. The dyno charts are all over, GSC or I can post them again if you'd like.

272s and get some cam gears and a tune. Your idle will be like stock.

OT: I used to own a 96 Maxima as well....loved the hell outta that car. It was faster than my Evo for a while(12.98@110)

I have cam gears.

I've heard several say that 272 can idle like stock, so I believe it.

Are 272s significantly louder than 264 even if they can idle fine?

Is 264/272 basically compromise b/t the two with regard to perform/noise/idle?

Thanks for all the feedback

Not to hi-jack this.......but.

I'm considering cams as well. Has anyone had 264 intake & exhaust and then changed to 272's in the same car or vice versa. I would really like to see a no BS overlay of these two profiles against each other on the same car, same parts, tuned for each cam. I know the 272's make more top end but, I want to know if the 264's have enough power under the curve to make them worth it for me.

If you want to go with the GSC 264s, I have a set that just bought from logicperformance and haven't even taken out of the box that I'm looking to sell... pm me if you're interested.

I've done a lot of research on 272s. Vishnu recommends -3/-3 for the cam gears, but there's a guy on here (SilverSurfer) who dynoed a bunch of different set-ups with the 272s. His testing showed -4/-1.5 to be optimal. Another guy reported -4/-2 was best for him. You be the judge.

I wish there were some numbers of 272s versus something like the Tomei ProCam 260s. THere's not enough info on some of these higher lift cams, and I (for one) don't feel like being a guinea pig.

He has a stage 1 Vishnu, not a fully built car like Pruven's. Why are you guys recommending cam set-ups that aren't necessarily a good match for his car?

Thanks for the input!

No one has commented on 264/272 HKS or other setup (someone rec 272/264?)

Is 272/272 much louder, even if idle is good?

Is 264/272 a compromise b/t the two as far as low/highend and noise?
