I guess it all depends on what you have and what you are looking to do with it

For a daily driven car i wouldn't recommend going wide open with everything. noise is a pain at times.

On the same token, if you want to have more of a race set-up, eliminate everything and go straight through.

What different kinds of downpipes are there? They're all the same pretty much...some have flex sections and some don't, but that's a non-issue.

You're asking us if you're better off with a HF cat or test pipe? We don't know your situation. Ask yourself which one you want, and then get it. A test pipe will make more power, but will be louder and illegal.

We don't have headers.

Any TRUE 3inch downpipe would work for you. Test pipes are all the same but most of them throws CELs.. I have even seen HF Cats throwing CELs... so you need to find a solution for that..

You mean the manifold probably, IMO, stock manifold should do good until you upgrade the turbo.

I really reccomend the WORKS 76mm Ceramic testpipe. It fit wonderfully for me and I have had zero rattling. It comes with upgraded hangers and is a very nice piece. The ceramic coating helps drop the temperatures and saves you from wrapping your exhaust.

As far as HF Cat/Test pipe, check your local emission laws, you might have to rip off the testpipe every year or so if you wish to pass.

Helix is a pretty nice DP piece. Even Megan is desent for the price.
You can easily grab a mechanical O2 fix if you put in a test pipe. Most are built the same, so look for price. And if you're in Cali and they like to look under the car, see if you can find cat heat shields and weld them over your test pipe...the world will never know ;-)
(of course I'm still looking for some heat shields myself....one vendor used to sell them...they are hard to find)

Logic performance also has a nice 3" downpipe for 185. I wouldn't get Buschur's. It doesn't use the donut gasket.

No...if a downpipe doesn't use the donut, then there is a flex section to compensate. But that causes a weak link. So I would just choose one that was meant for the car, which is most of them.

Thats incorrect, I have the Buschur 3" down pipe and there is no flex section and it doesn't reuse the donut either. It bolts on to the O2 housing directly.
