Angry 4 bolt 02 housing flange????

So about a year back I was helping an evoM vendor test out a new prototype exhaust. I got it for a discounted rate, for being the testbed car. I will leave names out becuse it is irrelevant at this point.

Anyways, they told me there weren't many fitment issues except they needed to use a different "gasket" on the 02 housing-downpipe connection. I didn't think much of it until I started having mega welds break on the entire catback.

I bought and installed a new catback about a week ago but didn't bother to install a new downpipe.

Well tonight I got under the car and saw this at the 02 housing/DP joint.

Basically this is showing me that my DP has 2 bolts (standard) but my 02 housing flane is a 4 BOLT!!!! WTF!

There don't apear to be any leaks or anything- but this makes me wonder what exactly they put in there! Is it a new 02 housing or just a new flange?

I'd ask the vendor but we have already severed ties after the initial breaking of the welds on the muffler.

Anyone have any idea on why they would cut off the 2 bolt flange and add one with 4? lol

If you have the stock 02 housing and someone actually did what you said and made it 4 bolt, they are complete morons. I dont think anyone is that stupid. Maybe you have a differnet 02 housing with a matching downpipe?

yeah, it's truly bizaar man. Nope. The DP is just like it was when he took it out of the box.

The evo was bought brand new off the lot- so that rules out 3rd party tampering...

It's just too much of a coincidence that the owner of the shop told me they had to "make something work" to get the DP to fit since the stock gasket wasn't going to fit. He just didn't bother to tell me what they had to do.

Id just buy an aftermarket 02 housing (like Helix or Megan), theyre very cheap. That will solve your problems and youll have a nice new aftermarket 02!

Well, that was the first thing that came to mind, and I have a contact that can get me the 02 housing at megan for WAY cheap lol...

But I'm thinking that if they had to completely cut off the old flange and weld a new one on to get it to work with the DP that they put on- then who's to say an aftermarket 02 will work? PRobalby not too likely- they cut the other one off for a reason.

I'm thinking if I replace anything it will have to be the DP AND the 02 housing. It's likely a new DP would not fit properly with the hackjob they have already done to the 02 flange- and vice versa.
