Question HELP!! Where to place oil pressure sending unit??

Hey fella's

I 've got a question on where to put the oil pressure sending unit. I've seen the write ups on taking out the plug by the oil filter. There is another above the oil filter that wants to break loose vs the one that is right next to the oil filter. Is this other one ok to use?? Or is it a return?? Need to know ASAP.

Thanks,
Joey

Sorry, no answers for you, but I am in the same boat here. I just dusted off my old VDO gauges from my last car and want to install them soon.

Also, if anyone knows the thread pitch for the locations suggested, that would be great!

There are 2 unused ports on the oil filter housing. I used them for oil temp, and pressure. Due to space around the filter one of them is better suited for a pressure sender.

check this link for a good how to.

good luck!

End of the cylinder head on the driver's side.
Why check pressure at the pump when it tells you when it's too late?
Pressure at the head is after all crank, rod balance shaft feed so it gives you a true measure of oil pressure.

Timzcat,

No, I don't have a guage.
Mitsubishi conveinently put two plugs right in the head for you.
Easier to get to and more accurate indication of engine condition.

I have an adapter from greddy that bolts in place where the oil filter is located. it has the wholes for oil pressure and oil temp. easy plug and play. I really don't want to drill into my block. I also have an adapter that goes in series with the radiator hose for water temp. fuel pressure you have to buy an aftermarket fuel rale that has an extra out put for fuel pressue. i hope that helps

Did you find a pic?? ^^ If nessesary, maybe I'll relocate that pressure switch.

So the oil pressure in the block is going to be more accurate?? Where the one by the oil filter is going to show higher reads or it's going to be a lot slower in reaction then right??

joey, let me know what happens with this. mountain was going to install my oil pressure gauge last week but couldnt figure out where to put it... the guys said that the spot next to the oil filter would give totally inacurate readings. the one on the block would work but he would have to unplug the factory sensor which sets off the oil light.... he didnt feel good about that. i dunno what to do. maybe a some sort of T addapter so i can hook up the pressure sensor and the factory sensor. i guess i would need to know the size of the adapter i would need...

No problem Michael...right now I have mine by the filter. But if it is really inaccurate then I deffinately need to change it. I figured the pressure before the filter would work....hell it's what a lot of DSMers have done in the past.

Might have to go to William's Oil Filter Supply and get a t-fitting to get it all to work. I'll keep ya up to date.

Use the extra plug in the head.

Timzcat,
I saw the plug you are talking about.... however, isnt the water/coolant outlet port in the way of putting a pressure sender there?

if you have or know of any tricks to fit it up there I would prefer that over the plug by the oil filter.

thx,
nils
