Is the pressure in the head different than in the housing? If the system springs a leak... it's going to instantaneously loose pressure... at least that's what I'd think...

if you have or know of any tricks to fit it up there I would prefer that over the plug by the oil filter.

thx,

Yeah its pretty tight. Get some Earl's stainless line, extend it out a bit then attach the sender

That is kinda what I was thinking... oil pressure loss would happen through out the whole system, correct?

right now I have the sender by the oil filter... is it really worth moving up to head? F'ing cramped up there for a pressure sender...

There is more then one plug. I'd have to look again to see what kind of room there is.
The head is definitely moer accurate in the sense that you will lose pressure where the leak is and not before. In other words if you had a bad bearing at say #4 then you would still have a reasonable reading from the oil filter location since it is the pressure at pump output. Where as a loss of pressure to the head could potentially save the entire engine because you would see the bottom-end loss almost immediately and know the cams were no longer getting enough oil.

So based on what you're saying, the argument could be made that it'd be more accurate for reading the bottom end (bearings) by being mounted on the housing? If this is an accurate statement, then I'm not certain I see a reason for moving the sender.

I have to be honest with you, unless I'm at the track, I'm usually not looking at the gauges. And if there's only a split second between mounting locations and something burst... I wouldn't catch it on the gauges. I'd be busy wondering why all the smoke is pouring out from under the hood! Call me a bad driver, but I'd be willing to bet I'm not the only one.

Edit: I'm not trying to say one is better than the other, I'm just trying to get all facts so I can make an edumucated decision.

There was a small mist style leak on my oil pressure sender. So I went ahead and re-placed it up at the head. I believe I tapped it into the return.

Cant believe the difference in pressure.

Old location: Right off the pump - 6bar (cold)
New location: return on head - 2bar (cold)

Red Line 20/50 filled just a little over full.

Robi and I talked about it and he said that sounds about right.

Here, here!! I am the same way. If I could get all the info and have even ppl who have had blown something and then realized that it was better to have it in the block (muscle or import cars) that would help in making the educated decision. I just want to be sure before doing the job.

It's a question of where to put it, not what to get inorder to put it on. We are looking for good info on where is the best place to put it. Engine block or the oil filter area??
