Oil Light Flicker

Hi Everyone,

My oil light is flickering, I've searched and came to the conclusion that it may be the oil pressure switch. Before I test the oil pressure, can someone please post pics or a DIY of where to find this sensor?

Reading this, I'm getting mixed responses and getting confused whether it is somewhere on the block or the oil filter housing.

Thanks,

The switch itself should be on the block under the intake a ***** to see and get too. Others have mounted other gauges sensors to the oil filter housing--. You sure you just don't want to run a slightly thicker oil, or simply an oil change to improve viscosity and solve your problem?

My oil light started to flicker when the car warmed up and the oil thinned out. I changed the sensor and it still did the same thing.
Long story short it costed me an engine.
I would recommend you replace your oil pump just to be on the safe side.

I just had my block replaced by the dealership...and now this happens.

How can I test the oil pressure? Anyone know any ideas or DIY?

On an 8 the oil pressure switch is on the back of the block under the intake. On a 9 it is on the oil filter housing.

To test, pull the sensor and replace with a mechanical gauge.

Your oil pump may be on its way out. When they replaced your block was a new oil pump installed?

No, they did a short block replacement. I'm trying to buy a oil pressure tester kit. But these are hard as hell to find. Figured while I have the oil pressure switch out. I'll test the pump to see if it is still running strong. If it's the pump, I'll buy a new pump, if the pressure is good, I'll put the switch in and see if it does anything.

Here's some more detail about what's going on.

The light flickers sometimes when I try and get the car to roll from a deadstop without gas.

Only after a long drive on a hot day the light will flicker at idle. This is when the oil temp is > 80c

No light when driving or when the oil is cold or into the 70c

That light comes on at 6psi so I would take it back to mitsu. It could be a big deal and replacing the block without a new oil pump is plain dumb.

Hate to give some bad news but my light flickered when I had a spun barring. It wasn't bad enough yet to keep the motor from running but because if that (for some reason) I wasn't able to maintain proper oil pressure.

Hopefully all is well with the Evo, But like the post above, my Evo had the light flicker and found that I had a spun bearing as well. It sucks, but maybe you can catch it before it does any more damage. Let us know what happens.

Had the car diagnosed at the dealership. The oil pump is fine and the pressure is good. The issue looks to potentially be a leak somewhere and the oil is dripping on the oil pressure sensor next to the oil filter. They put dye in the oil and told me to just drive it like normal and bring it back in a week. They are suggesting perhaps replacing the sensor, but I'll wait until I hear the results next week.
