I was talking to a couple friends that own a WRX and STi that bought a ECU flash kit from Cobb Tunning. This like bad boy cost them about $700, but they can flash, reflah, and flash back to stock if needed with a small hand held (looks like a ECU "check engine light" tool) computer that is pluged into the OBD II access port. Plus Cobb gives them updates and everything. It's pretty freakin awesome!
I am wondering if anyone knows of a company that has something simular to this for the EVO's. I've looked and haven't come up with anything yet. Cobb Tunning only works on subies. :-( I truely like the idea that if I flash my computer, and also I can flash it back to stock if needed.
Anyone know where to find something like this???
Thanks,
Joey

The Vishnu Excede Unit for the Evo is capable of having different programs uploaded via a serial port cable from your lap top. The different programs are downloadable from their website. In fact, you can upload two different programs and switch between them. You start off by ordering the Exede programed the way you want it and change programs as you mod your car. The unit is $900.

Correct me if I'm wrong? What would be the downside of doing something like this?

I got the impression that (even with it being more expensive) doing something like the access port deal would be better because your car is ever changing in mods, so one flash may not be as good for one set of mods compared to another. Plus if you run into a problem where you have to take it back to the dealer you can flash it back to stock.

Personally, I see no reason to switch back and forth to the stock map - once you have a proper map tuned for your mods then I would see no reason to change it.
If your running race gas the ecutek has a map switch function where you can switch to a high bost map with your defrost button

So I thought being able to switch back to stock would be ideal for that situation.

Also - my company provides a service where I flash you back to stock and then back again to modified for free at any time no questions asked for situations like this

Al, you say they can't detect a flash on an '03.. but what about an '04?
Good to know that you'll flash back and fourth in the event of a situation like this.
