Couldn't they just pull the checksums?

Plus Cobb gives them updates and everything. It's pretty freakin awesome!

I am wondering if anyone knows of a company that has something simular to this for the EVO's. I've looked and haven't come up with anything yet. Cobb Tunning only works on subies. :-( I truely like the idea that if I flash my computer, and also I can flash it back to stock if needed.

Anyone know where to find something like this???

Thanks,

Not really. I've done pretty extensive research on engine managment systems for both the Evo and the WRX. An end user evo reflasher is simply not available for a reasonable price. A certain evom guru and I have been toying with the idea of rolling our own, but we've decided that it's going to be too much of a headache. We've both gone piggyback. If you're interested in this and have systems programming or microcontroller experience, pm me.

It's also interesting to note the the WRX has a flash limit (somewhere around 100). You can't just reflash the ecu however many times you want.

donour,
That is very interesting and had no clue there was a limit on the amount of flashing. Makes you wonder that the EVO might be somewhere around the same. Not that ppl would flash it 100 times over a life of a car anyway.

I have many hundreds of flashes on my own evo ecu with any problems

Ecutek does give 100 flashes as the operational limit of a stock ecu - hoever in practive that is a most conservative figure and in most situations most users will vere even go over 20 flashes in a lifetime anyway

They have a sorta/kinda workaround. You can read about it here.

Yup. The (largely unused) thread is here

That's true. I have in a mind a somebody who dailey drives their evo, autocrosses on race gas, and gets oil changes at the dealer. 100+ reflashes isn't inconceivable, just unlikely.
