My plans, please criticize

I have tried to create a sort of guide that i will follow as i mod my evo, and wanted some advice from those of you who are more experienced with the modification of these cars.
So far, these are my plans....

2005 Evo Rs

Intake
Cat-back exhaust
High-flow cat
Down-pipe
272 Cams
Then do my first flash by Al

Any body have a similar setup to this???? what kind of numbers/times can i expect with these? No im not a bench racer so i dont expect an exact time, just wanting to know if anyone knows an estimate from their experiences.

After the first flash I plan on upgrading....
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Bigger Intercoolr (should I)
Hard-piping for intercooler
upgrade Exhaust Manifold (should i)
New Clutch/flywheel
Then my second flash

thanks in advance for your help, any ideas of what i should scratch add, or switch around would be appreciated.

With your first flash you would want to add a fuel pump. With you second list not all of it is necessary. Intercooler- stock is fine w/ stock turbo. Exhaust Manifold also not necesarry w/ stock turbo.

+1 but an exhaust manifold wouldn't hurt spool up on the stock turbo. just make sure the manifold will support an aftermarket turbo, some of them like borla don't.

You probably don't need an intake either. They don't seem to make power as much as cool induction noise from what I've seen but, induction noise is desirable to some. With the first round of upgrades you should be just over or around 300whp depending on what type of dyno you use.

For your second round I would loose the exhaust manifold and get alcohol injection.

I have a HKS RS intake and I personally love it, I know it wasn't necessary but it makes an awesome suction noise when my turbo is spooling (i think) and I can hear the stock BOV pretty loud.

Plus I read that with the intake w/ turbo back exhaust or complete exhaust set up (catback, high flow cat, downpipe). Al can create 11whp with his flash.

Don't forget to get a boost controller.

Most tests with hp claims with intakes are with the hoods up. I would love to see the same results with the hoods fully closed.

1. Get a downpipe with a racepipe so you have no fitment issues (dc sports)
2. Get a catback exhaust
3. Boost gauge and a manual boost controller
4. Cams
5. Fuel pump
6. Head studs
7. reflash

If you plan on going to the track and launching it then don't forget to get a ACT or Exedy clutch.

Good luck.

Ok, Thanks for all the input. I did a search on cams and it seems like most people get 272s, and some the 264/272 combo. I read some criticism saying 264s were barely noticible, anybody have experience with cams and what kind are the best to get? Also, (probably a really newb question but you learn by asking) What do headstuds do, i know what they are and where they are and stuff, are they just reinforcement for the higher boost?

I have those same mods (minus intake and flash) and put down 266whp on a dynodynamic. I'm going to add a MBC and 255 fuel pump, which I recommend you do also, before I get tuned by Al in October.

you gotta get a mbc thier only $75-$100+ and they make for quicker spool up also i see that you are in ohio, have you looked at buschur stage 1 yet?? Intake filter, Full TBE, mbc, boost gauge and pod and either a flash or an s-afc. $1300

It's certainly possible without cams...maybe throw in a K&N drop in filter.

It depends on which dyno you measure on ... different dynos different results ... dynojets are notorious for being over inflated ... those dynos are the worst both roller drums are not even manually connected, which means theorically the front could be spinning faster than the rear ... which would put a great deal of stress on the EVO's center diff....

On more accurate dynos like the mustang AWD or dynodynamics, I doubt it ...
What you need is a flash that controls boost and get rid of the EBC/MBC ... also I don't believe in intakes for the EVO, the potential issues negate any minor benefits ... the stock air-intake is under taxed and well designed ... if anything a drop-filter may be a good idea ...

I'd lose the intake from the list, add the walbro and an mbc to the initial mods. I ran HKS 272/272s set to -4/-1 for over a year and was very happy with them - idle as good as stock, very nice power gains. With my new setup, I went with HKS 280 cams set to +2/0 - IMO the 280s are not for everyone, though, so I'd recommend starting with the 272s.
