Valvesprings/retainers
How much would it cost to get new valvesprings and retainers installed? Im going to be installing some cams, and i needed new springs and retainers. If im installing my own cams, would i be able to do this on my own?
unless you know exactly what your doing and have the right tools then it should be fine to install it yourself. if not fork out the money and have some reputable shop install them. If your doing your head why dont you port your head and get some racing valves also, would save you a lot on labor $$ if you decide to add more mods in the future. thats what I did.

yeah i just dont have the cash for that right now. I was hoping it would be like a $300 or so install.....but it looksl ike its gonna be a little more than that.
Doing valve springs yourself is a pain without the proper tools; especially if you don't want to pull the head off your engine. Mitsubishi does have someone make a good "on the head" valve spring compresser for them, but it's expensive if you need to buy it through them - I was quoted about $350 after a discount.
There are "lever action" type valve spring compressors (for doing the valve springs with the head on the engine), but you will need a friend (and probably something to extend the lever with) to use them. I've used one once and will never do it again.

well u know what the best way to get that done is just to get a stage 2 head work done this upgrade comes with springs and retainers there is a shop in lake barrington (i think i spelled that right) call DEVOTUNING you can buy a new one already done or exchage yours for a better price and i will tell you this right now it will cost less then AMS would charge you. you can also go to there website for more details the guy that owns the shop his name is adam i think he use to work with AMS and he went his own way. the man knows his evo's ask around they will tell u.
I just checked out Devo Tuning's website. A stage II cylinder head is $1100 for a mild porting job, 3-angle valve job, upgraded crower springs and retainers, and a few other things. Definitely a nice price for all that, but still $1100. Oh well, I say go a different route on the cams otherwise this is going to get expensive real fast.

Also, post up some numbers when you talk to devo tuning. I would be interested to know how much they charge if you have a good core. Thanks bro!
