HELP, 5th synchros grinding

It just started today, when I go into 5th gear, it grinds going in. Once it's in 5th it's ok, drives perfect. Only problem is going into 5th, I hear a short grinding noise. My brother says it's the 5th gear synchros.

I have 23k miles and an ACT clutch.

when I have the dealership check it out, will they be able to tell I have an aftermarket clutch when they check the synchros?????

right now I double clutch into 5th and it's all good, no problems.

Pleast tell me what you think and your experiences on this issue.

Thanx

They will know when they take it apart. Even though the ACT clutch probably had nothing to do with the syncro going out (there is a TSB for the 2003's) they will of course blame it and void the warranty.

Just call the dealers and see what they say before you take it in they will honor the warranty I had the same issue. I have mods done to mine and they didnt say anything! So go figure....it all depends on the dealer!

I'm at Global Mitsu in Plainfield, NJ right now. I told them the synchros are grinding in 5th gear but I did NOT tell them about the Aftermarket clutch. We'll see what happens. wish me luck.

Ok, here's the deal. They told me that I was right, that the 5th gear synchros were grinding so they ordered the parts and I have an appointment on Tuesday for them to fix it under the warranty.

again, all they did was drive the car so they won't know I have an aftermarket clutch until after they start taking the trans apart.

what do you guys think about that plan of attack. Before they can give me a hard time, they would have already invested the cost for the new synchros and the time that the mechanics would take to find out about the clutch. I figure they will overlook the clutch after all of that.

and if they don't, I'll tell them to put it back together and Ill take it somwhere else, which is a lose/lose situation for them.

What do you guys think?

you should be fine with the tsb out. if they drove and they if they ever drove another evo, they could tell that was an act. they are nothing like the stock clutch in feel. and they would be out some money for all that time if they don't cover it under warranty. i don't think they will be reporting you to mitsu out of spite.

since never its just what people have been saying....that's all. But I know some cheap dealer will do it so that way they are not out of money because most of the time the dealer has to pay for the technician to work on and stuff like that.

Since never my @$$, my dealer practically accused me of attempted fraud for having them work on the trans w/out telling them about the clutch. $1500.00 later I have the best/most expensive synchros money can buy!!!!!! The dealer sux!!!!!

hey do you guys know if the warranty would be voided with aftermarket exhaust and intake?

are you guys having tranny problems generally heavily modded or stock? I just picked up an 03 and its in good condition but I seriously do not wish to have going synchros within a few miles.
