I'm not a penny pincher, but $700 for cams? when others are around $500.

I've seen 280s seemingly slow spool on a WR turbo. I don't know if it ramps up differently when it loads on the street or not, just what I saw on the dyno, and compared to my car with stock cams.

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards trying the Tomei 260 Procams. They're built from OEM hollow cores and have higher lift than the HKS 264s. I guess I don't mind being a guinea pig. I was for the White Rabbit

My realistic goals with my car right now is 450 - 500 whp on 91 oct. I'm not looking for the ultimate HP. I would much rather give up some top end HP for better spool up.

If I had cams that had higher lift than stock but had the near same duration as stock cams then I would have faster spool up. right? or am I totally off on this?

Unless you have a very friendly dyno, I don't think you're going to hit 500 whp w/out alky thrown in the mix ... (pun intended).

atlvalet - doesn't the higher lift of the Tomei's mean that you have to also upgrade your valve train?

Yup, I will upgrade the valvetrain. Probably with the ones from Revolver.

I think you're right now that I think about it. Currently making about 350 WHP.
AEM + 40HP
Cams ( let's just say 272's) + 30 HP
Bigger fmic + 20 HP
Tubular headers + 0 HP just better spool up.

That still only puts me at 440 WHP

Hey one can always dream...

280s indeed add power to the STOCK TURBO. David Buschur has proven so, need I say more? Ill be adding 280s with cam gears soon.

How much HP did it make over 272's on a stock turbo? Or wasn't that tested?

Chris

Ok. Just to update...

I got back from the dyno tuning. Got the dyno done at LAPD ( Los Angeles Performance Division ) They have a AWD dynojet. If you read the previous posts I was supposed to upgrade the cams, FMIC, and AEM EMS. All but the EMS made it into the car. Previous dyno #'s before the 272 cams and FMIC was 347 WHP @ 22 PSI. The car made 398 WHP and 346 TQ on 91 craptane @ 22 PSI.

I have the 272's set @ +2/+2 to help the turbo spool. I sure there are better settings to increase top end power ( like -3/-3 ) but I'm really happy with +2/+2. Unless someone else has cam setting suggestions that help the turbo spool up faster while increasing top end power, I'll probably keep with the setting.

Buschur made power from 3500 and up OVER the 272s, search his dyno developments thread.
