Removing engine??

For those that have taken ur 4g63 motors out, what is the easiest way?? it looks to me like it is easiest to drop it down and out??? Im used to picking motors out from the top but the evo motor looks like its too tight to go out from the top. Any help wpould be really appreciated thanks fellas

Ps Any other tips would be highly appreciated , thanks again

I droped mine down and out. When I put it in, I reattached the subframe and dropped it in.

If you was to do it again, would you go down and out again?? Why did you drop it in from the top, when u put it back in instead of going from the bottom again?? Also it seems to me like the turbo, ac, P/S, and other junk can stay on the motor right?? One more thing, how did you disconnect the shaft going back to the rear wheels?? thanks for the reply

i disconnected at the half shaft. I didn't have any of the turbo, etc when it went back in. It was easier from the top because I didn't want to lift it back onto the subframe and have to handle both the subframe and motor.

Id do it again that way. It was very easy to do.

I separated the transfer case and transmission from the motor. I took the transmission out from the bottom and the motor out through the top. The hardest part of doing it this way is dealing with the weight and bulk of the transmission. I deally you really need to spend some time rigging up a proper transmission jack so you can manuver it correctly.

If you've got a lift it's probably easier to drop the whole subframe and drivetrain out through the bottom.

i have taken plenty of these engines out. i have always done it out from the top. the evo's engine is a little tighter than the previous dsm's but it will come out, just be careful and go slow. i do it with all accesories attached and tranny attached. you will need a engine leveler to do it with everything on. remove all the obvious stuff and t-case and you'll be ok. pm me with any questions. good luck.
