Question GReddy Oil Catch Can problems

I bought my brother's oil catch can for my Evo. It was on his WRX. Trying to install it, I noticed that the hoses needed for the Evo seem to be of a different diameter than the WRX. Is it possible to buy just these hoses somewhere? I haven't been able to find them online.

Also, where have you guys been installing your cans? There's not much space in there! I'm thinking of buying a mini-battery kit and the K&N air filter kit from Buschur. Will the catch can fit in the extra space along with the new air filter kit? If not, where else can I place it?

You'll need different hose, I think it was 9mm. I'd abandon it though, I just took mine out and went crank case breather. It effectively does nothing but collect the oil and gas expelled by your crankcase into that canister--and the gas is rerouted to your intake.

(gas, as in the crappy air is that floats around under your valve cover)

Awesome. Well I just got an email back from GReddy stating that their catch can kits are NOT universal (even though every online store I've seen them on says they're universal), and that they don't sell the hoses separately! So the guy expects me to buy a whole new catch can so I can get the right hoses?

Does anyone know for sure what size the hoses are and where I can go about buying them?

Hey RyanM, what do you mean by "crank case breather"? What kind of setup is that?

why don't u put the catch can for sale on the suby forums, take that money and put in a little bit of urs and buy a new one for ur evo.

Or u can go the breather filter method (tiny filter on valve cover), like i did for now:

you can get a k&n one off of buschurs website for $18

If you're tire of waiting you can run to autozone and pick up a breather as well . CHeck your auto or hardware store for the lines.

not only that John, but that breather method makes the car STINK over time in the passenger compartment

And sorry, but Greddy is wrong on their own product (no surprise there) - they are totally universal - they make a 9mm hose version and a 15mm hose version. You can use either one (catch cans are the same other wise), though the 9mm is a far easier install.

So what do you do to get the right hoses? Simple - take the "nipples" out of the catch can and find your nearest hardware store or better yet, Aeroquip/hydraulic hose supply place. They should be able to sell you a barb fitting that uses a 9mm "barb" vs the 15mm your car has not. From there, go to your nearest auto parts store, get as much fuel hose (rubber with the reinforcement chords inside) as you think you will need (most places sell it by the foot) and you are all set

That's actually exactly what I did! I found everything I needed in the plumbing department of Home Depot

Now I just need to find some black hose cover to wrap around the ugly clear hose that I got

Thanks for all your help guys.

If the crank case breather is not the best plan, would it be better to just run a 9mm hose out to the bottom of the car? I'm not all too excited about trying to make a hole for that greddy can again as I've changed my setup significantly in the last few weeks. I also don't like the idea of running that back to the intake, that seems like a bad idea in general and it resulted in a crap load of sludge.

That crappy clear hose is what ships with the Greddy can. I went with Samco instead

routing the catch can to the intake is how it should be done...it won't make sludge at all unless you routed it wrong

sure you can route the hose at the bottom of the car...and in the next 25k miles your underside will be covered in goop...not a good idea (and you'll still smell it in the passenger compartment. Don't hooptie it up...run a catch can, properly routed properly and it will do the job.
