clutch install!!!
i have an 03 evo and i am changing out the clutch in it, the shop that is doing is a freind of my dads so i am getting a good deal. now here is were it goes south, they are in the process of changing the flywheel and get to the pressure plate to find out that it is welded to the input shaft, so my question is has this happened to anyone else? oh and on the top of all this i am evacuating form hurricane rita with my babay still in the shop up on a lift!!! its going to be a bad couple of days.
Man I would forget about the flywheel for now and lower the car to the ground. Cover it with a plastic tarp, plywood, and anything else you can get to protect it from falling debris...

I think Evil 1 is right. If they are not familiar with pull type clutches, they would think the disc is stuck, when actually they need to release the bearing from the pressure plate before the trans will come off.

I agree, I have yet to see an Evo with a welded disc to the input shaft. At the same time they said that the pressure plate is welded to the input shaft. This makes no sense since the pressure plate doesnt make contact with the input shaft, the throw out bearing makes contact with the pressure plate. They are having trouble separating the throw out bearing off the pressure plate. They can sometimes be a PITA.
sucks when you let a shop work on newer cars. pull type clutch system has been around for a while but if your tech hasn't seen one before, he will have a hell of a time trying to get that off. tell him to bolt the trans back on to the block and read how to disengage the throw out bearing. Hopefully he hasn't ruined it to a point that he has to unbolt the pressure plate to get the trans off.
yea i think that he is just new to a pull type clutch and thinks that it is welded on there, by the way the car is alrigt i hope, since now i am stuck in arkansas with relatives. but will find out when i get back.
