Initial Street Testing Results.

I put the BR Race FMIC on today. I had to make some minor adjustments to the IC pipes, weld on a new section, and replace one bend...no biggie, install was done in less than an hour even with tig welding and tapping for the AIT sensor.

On to the preliminary results:

STOCK FMIC at 23.5psi boost ~75*-77*F ambient temp.
3rd gear WOT pull from 3000rpm to 8000rpm. Temp starts at 76.4*F and rises to 104.0*F at 8000rpm in 3rd gear. Temp gain of about 27.5*F on a single gear pull.

Launching from a standstilll ait is 78.0*F and rises to over 105.8*F by 7000rpm in 3rd. Temp gain of 27.8*F on a drag simulation of 1-2-3 gears.

BR Race FMIC at same 23.5psi boost ~70*-72* ambient temp.
3rd gear WOT pull from 3000rpm to 8000rpm. Temp starts at 71.6*F and rise to 71.6*F!!
Temp gain on the single gear pull is ZIP, NADA, NOTHING. I repeatedly tested this, and even went out to make sure the sensor was plugged in and in the ic pipe, as it was staggering.

launcing from a standstill AIT is 69.8*F and rises to 73.4*F at 7000rpm in 3rd.
Temp gain of 3.6*F on a drag simulation of 1-2-3 gears.

Im flat out amazed at the temp rise now, it's almost non existant.

on a side note, I didn't touch the hallman evolution MBC during the test, boost was exactly 23.5psi +,- .5psi with both intercoolers without adjustment. I know alot of people say they see a big boost change going to a fmic upgrade, I didn't see squat.

At 23.5psi with the stock fmic, today the best WHP the ems logger recorded was 393whp.
At the same 23.5psi with the BR Race FMIC, the best WHP was 421whp.
The calibration file and boost pressure were untouched. That WHP gain was completely from the FMIC and ambient temp change.

WHP when overlayed is consistently 15 to 20hp better with the new FMIC core at the same boost level. Much of the gain seems to be at the higher rpm, when the stock fmic core's AIT was rising up. Granted this is comparing a single gear pull.

At the dragstrip the power gain in 4th gear will be even more, as the stock fmic is totally heatsoaked and temps are over 120*F the whole gear. with the curve of the BRFMIC, I belive actual AIT at 24psi would be below 80*F all of 4th gear. 40*F is BIG.

On an actual dragrace run last week at a slightly higher boost level of 24.5psi with the stock fmic, starting line temps were 89.6*F, were 120.2*F at 7000rpm in 3rd gear, and 126.8*F at 7600rpm in 4th at the end of 1/4mile. Ambient temp was about 78*F, but sitting in staging raises the starting temp up to 89.6. 1-4 Gear temp gain is 37.2*F. 1-3 gear temp gain is 31.6*F.

Once I have racegas in the tank, I will run 30psi of boost and see what the temp change is at the dragstrip under real conditions. Stock FMIC at 30psi was Start 91.4*F, 7000 3rd: 127.4*F, 138.2*F end of 4th. 1-4 Gear temp change of 46.8*F! 1-3 Gear temp change was 36.0*F.

It can be seen that raising the boost from 23.5psi to 24.5psi to 30psi has a significant impact on AIT and the rate of change.

This FMIC should make a very very significant power gain at the dragstrip, even more so than seen on the street on single or 1-3 gear pulls. The AIT will be the most different at the end of 4th gear.

My gut feeling is this FMIC core will be worth 2mph at street boost level, and as much as 4mph at 30psi.

Next weeks project. The turbine housing install is a bit more involved, as we have to fabricate a custom o2 housing. Br supplied me with the downpipe flange, and Vband flange for the turbine main exhaust outlet. Im waiting on another 44mm tial vband flange, so we can make the external wastegate swivle for ease of install.

I hope the turbine housing is worth what Dave Buschur says it is.

Side note: HAHA pole looks like EvoM are alchoholics as a whole.

bummer, i was hoping buschur had a solution to the o2 housing on the fp hotside. =( Oh well, it shouldn't be too hard to fab up.

BR has the o2 housing pre fabricated when you buy thier GT35R turbokit. I decided to save a few bucks and do the fab in house.

Wow that is a lot of heatsoak for the stock intercooler at the end of the run in 4th gear. IMO, this is the first/best thing you could have done to improve your setup. The stock I/C at 30 psi on a 35r is such a bottleneck. Nice to see that the dsm ignitor and coils are handling the testing w/o any hiccups, great mod for people that don't want to spend the coin on a cdi setup. Keep up the good work, it's always nice to see informative posts like this on here.

I would love to see the difference the Race core would make on a BRS4 setup, with stock turbo and Alky. Makes me wonder if there is a large benefit for this combo from a Deluxe to a race core.

Awesome test results!! Have you noticed any spoolup changes?

I would really have to look back at the logs I made specificly to judge spoolup when I installed teh GT35R with the stock fmic, and go out now with the new fmic and try to replicate the conditions (what rpm to go wot, what boost level, what ambient temp).

If I can do that, and get directly comparable results...it's easy to overlay to two runs matching up the rpm trace, and see if boost pressure comes up faster with the race fmic. I didn't notice any major spoolup change, if there is a differance, it's no more an 100rpm or so.

honestly, I can't see there being a big enough differance between the deluxe fmic and the race fmic to warrant spending another $850, plus the install to remove the deluxe and sell it. If you have a stock fmic and are upgrading, I would say buy the race model, as it's only $100 more, why not.

Looks like the FMIC was worth about 60whp at 31psi on racegas with the gt35r.

I went from 120.6mph to 126.57mph at the dragstrip.

Turbine housing to be installed early next week.
Magnus intake got the secondary fuel injectors welded in today, meth fuel cell came in, fittings and lines, pump, and reg are here awaiting install.

Im running into RPM and safety issues. I got kicked from Etown tonight for going 11.2 without a rollbar. Same will likely happen next week at a differnt track.

The turbine housing was 50% installed today. Did the fabrication work on the new o2 housing and tial 44 mount. Waiting for a SS o2 sensor bung, and a new wideband sensor to finish the o2 housing tommorrow morning, then will finish install and get some street #'s for HP and TQ gain at 23.5psi so it's comparable to before.

planning to go to Island Dragway on friday night to test it out. hopefully knock off a 10 second pass before getting kicked out (no rollbar)

No I don't waste good testing time/weather. Got to get to the track before they close for winter in NJ. Besides, we are in the best time of year for setting good times, air temp gets cold for good power and mph, but the track is still is semi-decent shape for traction.
