just installed intake

well i just put a helix intake on my car. Before the helix i had a maf adapter plate with a cone filter which ran fine. Now with the helix the car idles a lil wierd and almost kinda feels like its gonna stall at idle sometimes. Is this because i need to be tuned??? or because theres a problem with the install or intake???

Argh. I just don't understand how people can continue to make the same mistakes over and over and over while the vocal ones (like me) continue to say not to waste money on intakes like that when the stocker works fine (and costs way less!!), but that if you DO spend the money, you WILL need a tune. Yes, you need a tune like everyone else who installs intakes that include a MAF pipe.

you will need a reflash of your ecu so you do not get lean spikes from the intake. why evos in general do this i dont know, cause i have an evo maf on my car and dont get them with a cone filter.

Did you reset the ECU? Thats crucial, also allowing the car to idle for 10mins or so after to relearn its idle. My car with a tune for the MAF error still bogged down/wanted to stall when I first put it on, most tuners don't touch the closed loop portions of the map either way.

Also, im with Warrtalon on the whole cone filter/maf pipe issue, only reason I changed was because I switched to the WR and liked that the Inken kit relocated the DV to the UICP.

05 evos are fine with intakes. I even took out MAF accidentily( forgot to connect intercooler pipes and started a car). and my motor was still idling ok. There is something different about 05 evo. BOV with VTA works so fine too.

god dammit no it doesnt... just cause you think there isnt a prob there is... if you are not recicring you are causing the maf to get incorrect readings, causing it to send the wrong readings to the ecu. and so on.. will you people stop giving the wrong damn information... there is no damn diff either with 03-05 with the maf.. stop this wrong info giving people... unless you know what really happens when you do things halfassed keep your stupid comments to yourself... taenaive you know nothing.. like your name says, naive..

sell the intake and get a flash...your stock intake is the BEST choice for the stock turbo and you will get waaaay more power out of a tune
