2005 Evo transmission issues....
Alright, I've got a 2005 Evo and have been having the shifting difficulties between 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd. It is a crunching feel inbetween shifts. It doesn't grind, and it is not limited to high RPM shifting. Many other 2005 owners have said that this issue goes away over time, well I'm at 2300miles and it has gotten no better. Some say to change the Transmission oil and it will solve everything, others say adjust the clutch pedal out to further engage the clutch. Well I just decided to change the tranny fluid, which i just did with redline oil mt-90. However, I did notice on the drain plug that there was a good bit of metal shavings. Should i be alarmed or is this a new transmission being broken in. I hate to keep taking the car back to the dealer because it is so far away and its hard for me to find time. Could I have bad synchros? Any thoughts or comments are welcome.....Thanks

Wrong oil! Do a search or read the manual ... you are supposed to use 75W-90 GL-4 rated oil in the 5 speed tranny and 80W-90 GL-4 in the 6 speed. Pennzoil Synchromesh is the best oil to use in the 5 speed tranny ... I would take out the MT-90 from your tranny to avoid damage to your synchros ...

On a search on this site, the redline oil was recommended by several people as being the best, along with the pennzoil. Thank you guys for replying, i just wanted to make sure the shavings were normal....
i also have the same problem.. 1-2 shifts, and 2-3 shifts.. only on a up-shift.. never on a down-shift. i know its not a good thing.. might be normal for mitsu, but that still doesnt make it an ok thing. i have 1300 miles on my car and it hasnt let up a bit. i already did the clutch line , and restrictor mod.. that didnt help.. next i'll try the syncromesh .

I put in the redline oil and adjusted the clutch pedal, after a couple hundred miles it has gotten better. Still not where I want it but it's now about a 6 out of 10, 10 being as bad as it was. How hard was the restrictor mod?

The good news is, it doesn't seem to be a synchro problem. It is going away slowly. But what sucks is that i'm at 2300 miles and still can't really get a good shift yet. I definitely recommend changing out your tranny fluid. I've heard from some that the clutch line helped, but some (vtekwrecker among others) say it didn't helop at all.
deffro and vtecwrecker,
i think it's just that u guys don't have enough time on the clock. deffro, go with the synchromesh or back to stock fluids. and vtecwrecker u just need more time. on my '03 it took almost 10k miles until it really smoothed out. and it wasn't 'til about 30k miles that it's really smooth now, after i changed the fuilds. i use all stock fluids in the drivetrain. and at 35,800 right now, it's even better. i just rode out all the clunks and bangs and crunches and over time it got better, but it took a while. i didn't even change the fluids in there 'til 30k either (i know i'll get flamed for that but hey, it worked for me). also try to rev match as much as u can. i take it as easy as i can on the drivetrain. that's my theory and i'm at those miles with stock everything and it's honestly sweeter now than the day i bought it.

I had the same problem and it only started to get better at around 3,500 miles. I have 6,600 miles and it's still a little on the notchy side but gears go right in and it's not an issue for me anymore. My best advice for you is not to force the shifts and let it break in, it'll get better you just have to be patient.
