Long term alcohol injection questions

I search and mostly pull up dyno's with alky and kit prices. I'm simply wondering if there are any negatives to running alcohol. Long term wise. Does it shorten motor life itself? I know running the higher boost and such will put added stress but what about the alcohol injection itself?
Thanks in advance,
Bill

I believe stock injectors and maybe an ugraded fuel pump would be fine depending on the about of boost you would be running. Generally head studs, injectors, and pump are more for safety then anything. The stock pump has been suspect even failing on dyno's.

alky?

You need to use distilled water or you will clog your feed line.

Good subject. Also what if you stop using the kit for a while or run out of whatever you had running through the kit? Would the car act diferent? Do you need to get retuned when putting this injection kit?

I think Al at Dynoflash has a new flash that allows you to run say 20 lbs on pump then the other flash automatically turns on if you start boosting more from alky or race gas.

The only long term effects of the meth on your car is that eventually the alcohol will eat away at the aluminum in your throttle body and also if you have a upper intercooler pipe. But were talking years down the road to notice anything.

+1 Also, keep your engine happy by checking the condition of your spark plugs often. pure meth does funny things to plugs.

I am not positive about alcohol ...but I know that water injection actually keeps your cylinders clean. I bet alky does the same.

It is like a blown head gasket that gets coolant in the cylinder ....when you pull off the head it will be easy to tell which cylinder blew because the top of the piston will be cleaner than the others

"I am not positive about alcohol ...but I know that water injection actually keeps your cylinders clean. I bet alky does the same" .... not really

Al @ Dynofalsh..."The level of maintenance on my car is related to the fact that I run 40 psi of boost on a significant shot of Methanol injection which creates good amounts of piston blow by and oil contamination with methanol which is corosive

This has been my practice on my 2.0 l and which I will carry over to the stroker - its nothing which the stroker requires

Someone running normal bost and power levels does not need to change the oil as frequently"

Read Al's thread... "My stroker engine lives" he talks a little about the corosive properties of alch. inj. and the need to change oil more frequently, etc....

The modest amount of alcohol that is injected with a properly set up alcohol injection kit is nominal

For YEARS they have used these kits on turbo buicks with no ill effects what so ever

For those interested - you can do some research on the forums related to turb buicks

IMHO far more damage is done through detonation on pump gas than by properly set up alcohol kits

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT however IF you get a alcohol kit to monitor is frequently to assure that it is operating

Thanks Al I was hoping to hear from you or David. Congrats on the new motor and I don't know if it's been asked but how did you get started with the dynoflashing? Just curious.
