Carmax replaced the first clutch since it died inside the 30 day warranty. I didn't buy the extended warranty because there was so much factory warranty remaining. Carmax never saw my car with mods.

The dealer, however, (Murfreesboro Mitsubishi in TN) basically voided my entire warranty just for the catback exhaust. They claimed the "increase in HP and Torque" causes undue stress on the car and drivetrain. I asked him how he slept at night knowing how he ripped people off so much...when he started to reply I told him to shut the hell up.

They can't void your whole warranty. They will say that, but it is illegal and they know it. They have the burden of proof to show how the exhaust or whatever aftermarket part would break the window crank for instance or whatever part that should be warranteed.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight... Im glad that you think that, but in the real world that's not how it happens. Basically the guy said he would NOT DO ANY WARRANTY WORK for me. Since all the local dealers are on the same "network" they have all agreed with the choad at M'boro Mitsu.

Of course I could sue them...but why would I spend $1000 to do this? My answer: I will NEVER own another mitsubishi and I tell everyone I know about the crummy service of the local dealers. I will also be posting a full page writeup in the Tennessean Newspaper about the entire situation, quoting several members from this board. This little exercise will cost me $0 since I used to work there and have several friends in high places. When it is published, I will post the link to the article for everyone's enjoyment.

If you let it slip "so bad" for very long the flywheel will be toast. The flywheel warps when it gets hot. ...It only gets hot when the clutch slips.

I didnt' say you wouldn't have to fight for it or stay out of court. But the law is on your side. Badmouthing them publicly may give you gradification, but it just makes you look bad and doesn't solve the problem. It's a lose/lose. Check out this link at the Sema website for more help:

I agree that they shouldn't be trusted, especially with Mitsu. My main objective was to give you some ammunition.

I've been down this road.... court costs/lawyers fees are recoverable if you win the case, you will not be out any money in the end, if you win.

Most likely, what will happen, as soon as you serve the dealer with court papers, they will settle with you out of court, and fix the car under warrantly. That is making the assumption that your mod didn't actually cause the problem, like the window crank example ACTman used.

My main reason for distrust comes primarily from the dealer's/manufacturer's flat out refusal to take care of the peeling caliper issue. Also, I believe that the dealer's comment about voiding the entire warranty was spawned from our earlier dealings about said caliper issue.

I could go to an out of state dealer and probably have better luck, but I'd rather cause pain and discomfort to the doucebag dealer that jerked me around.

But in some cases, I can see the dealer (and Mitsu's) reason for hesitation. Some people would like to roll up into the dealer with slicks and 450whp and get them to replace the transfer case for the 4th time after a launch gone bad!

(((Edit: ACTMan, I sent you an email.)))

not to get this thread to far off topic, but the dealer does not have the legal right to void the warranty. The dealer is not a Mitsubishi employee, and the dealer cannot void warranties, only a Mitsubishi representative can. I.E., the Mitsu district manager. But the dealer, doesn't work for Mitsu. Or the service manager, or anyone who works at the dealership.

True, but if the dealer reports to Mitsu that the mod caused the problem (however true or untrue that may be) Mitsu will back thier dealer. It's like trying to convince the judge that it's the cop's fault!
