How come the DSM 20G didn't surge?

How come the DSM 20G didn't surge?
With all the talk about the Evo 20G surging, how come the popular 20G used in the old DSM's had no surging issues? They can't be different.

One it was a true 20G, larger comprssor housing and larger exhaust housing and most were EXTERNALLY gated so it could also flow more exhaust and have superior topend but added LAG. This 20G has a tiny hotside in comparison and is internallgated. So it;ll surge
If you even THOUGHT of running a 20G internally gated, it was boost creep.

Have you guys experinced the surging yourself, and does it always occure with the 20g..
I was thinking about getting it ( cheap turbo with good gains ) but all this talk about surging is scaring me

I'm thinking its more about the adjustment.. Even the stock turbo surges with some of the aftermarket DV/BOV's out there..
If I recall the "True" 20G hotside, and the Evo hotside are roughly the same size.. Part of the problem is the fast spool and high boost levels we run on our cars.. You have to really carefully adjust your DV/BOV to vent easily at part throttle, while holding adequately for the boost you run..

First off the original DSM 20G had a smaller turbine housing than the EVO's turbine housing. The compressor cover I believe to be the big difference and that is being worked on as we speak.

im really starting to believe that it is not worth the money upgrading our stock turbos to a WR or a 20g, not trying to dis Forcedperformance Or David, but you can almost achieve the same results w/ a 10.5 hotside stock turbo. i mean there is always something, i've seen dyno numbers on a WR and i dumped that idea, but now the WOT surge w/the 20G...i mean i don't think there is anyway around the 16g anymore thats worth the money unless you upgrade the full package(AMS, Vishnu, Ect.)
Im too skepticxal to buy a 20G also because of the surge issue.
Can you buy the EVO IX compressor housings yet from Mitsu? maybe that could be a fix - it seems to be much larger!
