Connecting catback to testpipe

I have a Tanabe ultra medallion catback, and it tappers down to fit the stock cat. I know that a lot of after market catbacks all tapper down in order to fit the stock cat. So, I'm just wondering how is it possible and how do you guys fit an after market catbacks to a 3inch test pipe?

Can you guys tell me what kind of TBE set up do you guys have with the Tanabe exhaust?

Thanks a lot!!!

I also have the ultra medallion, and it bolts up to a 3" test pipe just fine.
i have the helix test pipe and down-pipe. No modifications required, just bolt it on and it's good to go.

I have the HKS carbon ti catback and downpipe, and i think both are around 2.75''. So should I get a 2.5 or 3" test pipe then?

I would go with the 3" test pipe. Does your exhaust taper down to 2.75" from 3"s or does taper down to 3" from 3.15"s like the tanabe exhaust?

Well it would be best to have the testpipe match you dp and catback exactly, but I definitely would NOT go smaller.

It'd be in your best interest to cut off the part that tapers down to a smaller diameter and reweld a flange back on... small tapering points in the exhaust can and will restrict power.
