A customer of mine went through 2 lower i/c couplers, the 2nd ripping the night before evo vrs. wrx/sti shootout at e-town.Checked with every vendor there and no-one had one but another evo owner that had the same problem turned me on to the fix Get one from AMS,much thicker and it has not been a problem since,no more leak.BTW,after the 1st one ripped I asked him to buy one of those engine dampeners made by weapon-r in hopes that would help his 2nd coupler last,it just made it last a little longer(it only lasted 4 months total). The ones from AMS are like 1/2 inch shorter, but like 4 times the thickness and has worked great for him thus far.

I didn't. Couldn't find and unbolt both the starter bolts. I had to use a swivel socket to manuver to the bolts. It was tight but it worked.

I'm pretty sure they are refering to us, Automotosports. We have a pretty large stock of silicone couplers.

The lower coupling isn't paper thin, it is 3 ply material.

I will look into the a thicker coupling or give AMS a call and get a 2 to 2-1/4 transition coupling from them if you need it quick.

The problem is, as I have said before, the crappy engine mounts in the EVO and we are have the solution, just waiting on the machine shop to finish the new engine mount inserts. The engine moves so much in the car that it tears the couplings.

****Installing a super strong/rigid lower coupling may fix the ripping but it is also going to put a ton of stress on the lower i/c pipe and intercooler outlet. When you do this please remember to not post that our intercooler or lower pipe are also junk and are bent or broken from the extremely rigid coupling you install

These engine mounts should be done soon. This is by far the longest delay we have ever had in getting something from this particular machine shop.

Also, those engine dampers don't work good at all, they only slow the movement of the engine down, they don't actually limit it.

It's just a matter of time depending on how much hp/tq the car have.

Very, very true. I just went through this, this weekend. Strong coupler + tight t-bolt clamp + engine movement = dented intercooler inlet pipe + massive boost leak.
