question about MBC & tuning
-Ok I was doing some searches and I was reading that when u get a manual boost controller or auto for that matter and set your boost higher than it is stock, that it soon beings to taper down and you lose the boost back to stock. How do you handle or control this? Do I get a gauge…set it on my desired psi and then every time the boost drops a bit I go back and turn it back up?
-I understand that you need to tune your car once you get an mbc. But once you have a manual boost controller aren’t you changing the boost constantly?...meaning u need to take a trip to the dyno every time u turn that knob? Or am I wrong? Do you set a good amount of boost safe for your car….tune it and then don’t touch the boost controller till you mod your car again?
-lastly, which is something I can probably easily find with a search but I mine as well ask since I’m here: what’s a safe number of PSI to set your boost at with your car stock….well maybe an exhaust, apc bov, a tune….I duno, I’m trying to think of some light mods here.
sorry for the new questions, im still searching.

i knew id get flamed for the bov. its not really for performance. but i cant help but loving that sounds of a nice BOV. unfortunatly evos arent good with VTA but after reading about apc's you can still get that sexy sound every now and then w/o screwing the MAF. i shouldnt have said anything about the bOV...its moot for this question.

what u need to do is to get a air fuel controller and a boost guage that way u know what boost it is set at and then use the air fuel contollet to see the air fuel ratio. because if the stock setting is 20 psi at 3500 doesnt mean u can be at 20 psi and not run lean. wich is the enemy. you need the afc to adjust it so that you still have a margin of safety. Also very important is that you will also need a fuel pump to be sure that you can put enough fuel in there for 20 psi at redline. by the same token, just because you have enough fuel for 20 psi at 3500 rpms doesnt mean that you will be pumping out enough at 7000.. best thing is to call a tuning shop lik buscher or Road RAce or Vishnu.
peace out

......btw, i have a SAFC-2 on my tiburon and i was just gunna leave it on when i sell it. should i take it off and use it for my Evo?...or do companies offer better afc's for the evo? also, im about an hour or so away from the vendor Dynoflash's shop so once i got all my mods i was gunna install all them and then immedietally drive to CT and have them tune it for me. your thoughts?

you have asked questions that have been coveed many times. with a MBC you NEED a gauge, don't get one without it, how would get tune it to the correct PSI? I as well as many other members recommened setting it at 20psi, it might taper down a little at redline. Also you don't need a tune or dyno with a MBC, just set it and forget it. You may have to make small changes as the weather changes. Also you mention a BOV, I would recommend getting the APS dual port BOV. I would recommend getting all your mods and then get the tune so you don't have to pay for a tune more than once. I good list of mods to get you started would be APS BOV, full turbo back exhaust, K&N drop in, walbro 255, ARP head studs, and some new cams.... You should be at least 300 AWHP with that setup and a good tune, if not more.

THE K&N in a drop in air filter, replaces the stock filter, its reusable so you have to clean it and re-oil it every so often, but its open element, and you dont need to get an aftermarket intake....
