264/264 or 272/272???
im trying to make up my mind on what pair i should get. im planning on staying with my stock turbo, and i dont mind the lopey idle. i have searched its just i cant make up my mind.
where do the 272/272's open up and when do they stop making power?
where do the 264/264's open up and when do they stop making power?
my mods:mbc, flash, TBE, intake, blow off valve

I have driven the following cam combos:
280/280 doesn't idle. it does something but i wouldn't call it idling. IMO not for a DD.
272/272 is lopey, but is bearable in a DD if power is what matters to you. i had these. They made great gains up top. I was running super tech springs, valves and retainers with stock turbo and block for reliability purposes. The gains i have seen with a bigger turbo are huge compared to stock cams. I never saw any of the stalling issues that some post about here. I installed and adjusted them myself.
264/272 is a nice compromise in power and driveability/ idle. It still idles like stock but has improved top end power.
264/264 has smooth idle characteristics but the gains are, imo, not enough to make a cam swap worth performing.
I'm not sure what you are asking about as far as "where the cams open up."
Cams make a difference throughout the power band. Much less so in the low end compared to the top end gains. The 272/272 build power up to the redline (wherever you decide that is). If you want low end torque, go with a stroker.
If you don;t mind the slightly lopey idle, the 272/272 is a given.

I have a few friends that are running 264/264, others 272/272 and others a mix of both 264/272 and 272/264.
If you are planning the keep the stock turbo then the 264/264 are perfect. There is a guy in this forum running 11's@115MPH plus with absolutely basic mods including the 264/264's. These are the guy mods (whiteevo311)
05 evo8 gsr, tbe, hks drop-in, safc2, hks 264s, ams fmic, mr bov, mbc, act clutch
11.87 @115 stock boost and clutch
best 60ft 1.65
best mph 116.65
The driveability on the 264/264 is absolutely great, the spool up on my EVO MR is simply amazing, 4th gear feels like 2nd gear, 6th gear feels like 4th gear, it translate into instant power, instant accelation from a roll.
However I have seen some great results on the 272/272 as well, either way you would be wrong .

Basically it's all relative. It depends on what you expect from your car and plan on doing with it. Let us know. I don't drag race, therefore, i could not tell you how each combo would perform in this setting.
i have the 9.8 hotside and im thinking about 264/272s........... i think if i had the 10.2 i would go with 272/272......... i was in a 05 with 272/272 and it just pulled like a train till redline

my turbo is far more capable of higher numbers, its not very streetable in my opinion...but when it hits full boost..hold on. im looking into ams's 2.3 kit dangit i shoulda got a 50trim or gt30
wow thanks for all the responses, what i meant by "open up" is when does the big power from the cam start coming in? like compared to without the cams. looks to me like i will probably be going with the 272's but more opinions welcome!
