Did you get the cusco or ralliart LSD in the TC when it was modded?

no i got the spider gear option.

the clicking sound is coming from the driver front corner, so it could be that axel, or it could be the tranny which is kinda on that side. I'll know inside of 12 hours.

I can fix this with a can of race fuel and a match. Holy Sh.t Steve. You have spent more on fixing your car then you did on buying it. You have my prayer that it is a CV joint. Good luck

what I have:

02-04 TRANSFER CASE W/ FORGED SPIDER GEARSET FRONT DIFFERENTIAL

Factory new transfer case featuring the super tough forged spider gearset for the front differential. Mesh zone are inspected to make sure that it was adjusted correctly. Heavy duty trash magnet is installed to keep the oil clean.

I'm thinking axel, had same noise happend to my VR4 a while back, and that's what the problem was. The clicking noise was absolutely the most annoying noise in the world and it was so freakin' loud.

I'm going to say front diff.

Here's why.....

While doing doughnuts you will have a huge difference in speed between the front wheels. This will cause the spider gears located inside the front differential to rotate at a very high rate of speed, so fast that even though the parts are in a bath of oil the centrifugal force will be enough to fling the oil off the gears and more importantly off the cross shaft that the spider gears are riding on. This will either gall the hell out of the cross shaft allowing the spider gears to improperly mesh with the side gears causing them to break or it will cause the spider gears to seize to the cross shaft which in turn will want to make the cross shaft rotate thus shearing the solid roll pin that holds the damn cross shaft in the differential housing. Either way I'm guessing spider gears.

SUMMARY: Doughnuts are bad for both you and your car.

Let me know what you find.

I'm with Jon. You should have upgraded to Cusco or ralliart diff +$1000 installed.

ok, I get in the car this morning to drive it to my mechanics shop. I take a route that requires the last amount of turning. i get there and tell him to come in the car so He can hear the sound. we pull out and make a few turns and no sound. Then we go on a wide *** road (evo turning radius is so great as you all know) and i lock the wheel in both directions while driving in complete circles pretty quickly. Still nothing. its as if my car healed overnight by itself? Obiviously I know thats impossible, but its very weird. Then after doing all this my mechanic is like "ahh *** it, lets do some launches" So I go and launch the car at 7k 2-3 times breaking all 4 lose and still nothing. i just dont get it. The only thing i noticed is that after all this and another 20 mins of driving i heard a slight slight sound if i had the wheel turned to the right and kept tapping the gas making the car kinda jerk. but it happened twice and I could reproduce the sound.

Maybe my car was making the noise to scare me???

Maybe the Axle and T-case fairy stopped by overnight and took care of me?

Regardless I will never do donuts in the dry again!!! rain, snow, thats a diff story.

Maybe the sheared teeth from the diff dropped out of the way of the gears and onto the trash magnet. I would inspect your magnet for metal ASAP.

i vote for the transfer case.

sounds exactly like the problem my friend had. was fine driving straight, but when he made turns it clunked.
