And to answer the gapping question... the bigger the gap the better assuming your ignition can handle it. My ignition can handle the .28 gap at 26psi all day long. Some apparently have problems with that... especially those with the AEM EMS from what I hear. If you beef your ignition you can run a bigger gap.

I am using NGK BRP7EIX and have had no ill-effects performance wise. However, sometimes I do get the P0300 code at idle. I just checked my plugs the other day after 10k miles and they look great!

I am running 22psi/pump gas.

no. The life of a sparkplugs in OUR cars is only shortened due to fouling assuming you have the car modified. On alot of 'regular' cars they will wear out because sooner or later the points get ground down over time. In our cars we will almost always foul them before anywhere NEAR that point. The gap I wouldnt think has anything to do with the life. If it does you wouldnt notice it for at least 30k miles I would think.

The smaller gap is only because the ignition can not handle enough juice to arc a spark across the gap. If we could, we would all run very large gap thus producing a better spark which would help burn the fuel more efficiently.

Are you guys sure NGK makes a BR8EIX? i thought it was BPR8EIX since IIRC P vs K in the IX series refers to the socket size for installation. At least thats what i gauged when i compared multiple plugs. see my other post.

Yup, the BR8ES gapped at .022 got rid of the misfire P0300 for me! Good luck!

I am going to throw this in here since it is relevant. I was @ Innovate yesterday and chatted with their chief engineer Klaus Almendinger about the Evo. I told him ho hard it is to run the Evo leaner than 11-11.5:1 on pump gas because of high boost and knock issues. He told me to run a step or even two colder plugs and see if I can run the car leaner.

He might be actually right about this. At my last oil change I swapped back from BPR8ES to BPR7ES (I had those handy) and I noticed that there are a few more knock events logged on my Evo than before. That forced me to run the car a bit richer in the top end.

I will get a set of BPR8ES and swap back and see what happens.

I had stockers but, after I installed 272hks cams, I switch to BPR8ES since it was recommended by Scott at TTP, the car was running great an after 1000 miles I started getting the service code, I switch to BPR7EIX thinking that will solve the issue but, It was actually the after market wires. After that been solve, I did not bother to change Spark plugs back, after reading this tread I went to AutoZone and purchase 12 to keep in my garage to change them once every 3k and to tell you the true the car feels more responsive and with more power, I gap them to .22 since that was what I was told by Scott, I guess my tune was done with does spark plugs in mind!!! To be honest I feel the difference, keep my finger cross hoping not to get the service code light

Trinnababe, anyone having misfire issues with the AEM simply doesn't know what he is doing or should I say the fix, plain and simple.

There are SO many things that cause misfires in the EVO. Luckily I think we have had the misfortune of experiencing them all at this point. Glad they are behind us.

All I have to say is, copper all the way!
