Depending on where you are in NY, I am about 1 hour north of Philly and specialize in Evolutions, stock and/or modded. It sounds like something caused the belt to rip (lose bolt possibly) or something may have whacked the pulleys (possible?). Either way, to really get a good look take off all the covers on the left side of the motor - cam cover, pulleys cover and crank pulley covers.

If you need help pm me and you can bring the car down and I will gladly take a look at it. I also don't charge an arm and a leg being that I do this on the side more like a hobby. I charge per job, meaning there is no hourly charge for diagnostics.

See if you can borrow, rent or buy a 90 degree Borescope, pull the plugs and stick the borescope into the cylinders to see if any valves got bent. If not you lucked out. If yes you need to start thinking about building a new motor. At least that way you will know what parts you will need to be repaired.

List your mods, one of them is probably the root of your problem. Also don't listen to the mechanic, they think they know it all but if you study the service manual you can probably do a better job. Mechanics are conceited blow-hards.

Who did your cams? I wonder if they may not have adjusted the tensioner correctly.
Also I doubt RPM is much more money than the stealership. I would trust them more than Mitsu.

Hi najeeb,

Works has an upgraded belt that the recommend for use with higher lift cams

Hopefully you just need a new belt and tensioner.

I was thinking about doing the Headbolts, springs/retainers just for extra durability.

Good Luck

Did you check your t-belt if it is still tight?

Could be your tensioner that gave out and the belt is flapping againts the t-belt cover.

I'm not sure if our crank pulley is a 2 piece design. Like maybe a rubber dampener on it instead of a solid steel piece. This pro. gave out causing it to wobble.

When we do cams we dont touch the tensioner / side of the motor. I use the rod. I put his cams in almost a yr ago. And is his daily driver ..

Depending on the miles, he could of snapped the inner timing belt

The dampening pulley could be bad, many things.. But one things for certain he need to break the side of the motor down. Najeeb .. expect to pay 250-350 for this job ...anything more and you're being charged too much..

And i would tend to agree with evotech .. i wouldnt go to the dealer either.
