Post-Installs Boost Cut: Actuator?

My '03s gone through some drastic changes over the past couple of weeks. I've been running with basically a 3"TBE and Works P2 flash.

Last couple of weekends have added intake, FMIC, piping, 264/272 cams and an MBC (didnt realize I could keep the stock solenoid, dumb). She runs rough but runs. Screwing around with the springs in the Forge MBC the stiffer one at it's loosest setting still sent the boost to 25+PSI and cut. I got the softer one to about 21.5 and holding successfully for almost a week before I took her in for the last mods.

I had no more time so I took the new fuel pump, injectors, White Rabbit turbo, 10.5 turbine housing, wastegate actuator, and O2 housing into the dealership for install. She's come out and she gets to between 22 and 23 psi and cuts.

I've unscrewed and unscrewed and unscrewed that MBC. The tech also said he replaced the line from actuator to the MBC.

I'm thinking the pretension on the actuator is hosed. I burned the FP videos on setting it to CD and took them in and he said he watched them but I assume he used however it was set out of the box. Either this or the line he ran from the actuator to the MBC is clogged tight.

Any other possibilities? I'd like to be sure before I give the guy a hard time.

Thanks!

You're getting boost cut at 22-23psi? You're in the same boat as me, I think the only solution is to get a flash that removes the factory boost cut. You just have too much air flowing through the MAF now, and the ecu doesn't like it.

Are you saying it's NOT an actuator issue???

No, Al blew off his commitment to be here quite frankly ... just got off the phone with Works and they say not to do a thing with it until it gets re-tuned. With their commitments they can't touch it for a couple of weeks (SEMA and I don't remember what all else they're up to). So I'm stuck at half-throttle spilling fuel out the tailpipe until I'm retuned ...

I've gone from Works-tuned P2 for 93 octane and 3" TBE to the following added:

Buschur Mass Air Pipe
Buschur Deluxe FMIC; upper & lower piping
APS BOV
Forge MBC
HKS 264/272 cams
White Rabbit Turbo
10.5 turbine housing
RnR O2 Housing
Walbro 255 Hi-Flo
650cc Injectors
Buschur COP

The worst part is missing the local drive up to the drags next weekend. I won't get her on a strip until spring now ...

I won't know if there _IS_ an actuator issue until retuned ...

No, the problem is that the tune that was supposed to happen didn't materialize. I was doing NOTHING until I heard Al was going to be here to do custom tunes.

And no, I didn't know what the problem was. I had no idea boost cut could be a problem. So I'll try not to call you a dick.

Kazz, Have you talked to AMS in Chi-town? I know they are working on a flash system, maybe they can help. Are you located in P-town?

Yes, P-town and just hijacked their thread about their dyno day tomorrow. We'll see. To tell the truth, if I have to wait, I'm stayin' Works ...

I can't say for sure you're not having an actuator problem, but if you are having a 'cut' issue, after installing all those mods that increase airflow, boost cut would be my first guess. Do you have a CEL? If so have it cleared; I bet it's an overboost code. I'm running 21psi and I hit boost cut in the cold air today.

No CEL - what I'm now wondering is if an SAFC-2 can help get it under control until I do get tuned. Any input???

Thanks all.

Kazz, have you tried taking the BR intake pipe out and using the stock one for a bit? I know it may be a long shot but I wonder if the intake track is messing with the MAF and give a larger tendancy to induce boost cut. Just a thought?

I am from P-Town, as well.

Thanks, based on options, it's a two week wait even for that.

Now, what about an SAFC-2? Could it be leaned out enough so that I can at least drive it like normal? Opinions? Experience?

Thanks.
