holy crap...it looks like the IX turbo is just as good as the 20g/WR turbos. Were you running a straight pipe?

This turbo proved the theory that it, along with the Mivec make this car rediculous for the street.
I tried various styles of tuning this car last night. Without letting out to much info, the combination of these two setups make for some incredible gains. BUT, let me say this again, BUT the turbo on the nine looks like it would be a great upgrade for the 8!!!!
Yes it looks like it would work well with the things I tried yesterday.
Cams, exhaust, Ported manifold, IC upgrades, Injectors, fuel pump, race gas and the nine turbo, etc will definately push this car in the low 11's and very high tens at the drag strip. On the 8 or the 9
Mark my words. That won't change.

Shiit, low 11's and very high 10's on stock turbo, i must be dreaming this isn't for real.

Like I said in the post, mark my words.
I know alot of people may not believe it but the setup is great on the 9. You just need the right set of cams. That will be the key to making the torque you need to multiply down the track.

How much do you suppose MIVEC helps? After getting the basic mods on, does it provide any significant advantage besides spool-up time?

Keep something in mind here about the way the Mivec actually works. There are several versions. I know that we are mostly concerned with just the evo, but the Mivec system has many features. It has a setup that controls low, mid, and high lift with duration. Along with just simple cam and injection phasing. The latter being the one we use on the Evo9.
The phasing allows us to spool the turbo quicker in the lower part of the rpm band where dynamic compression is low along with relative VE. As we increase load, throttle position and rpm past peak torque, we need to keep the VE level as high as possible for good torque transfer and multiplication for HP in the upper rpms.
So the Mivec system allows us to spool faster, have a great and longer torque curve in the mid rpm, along with good top end response at our designated shift points. This equates to a much broader power band that is flat and torque filled anywhere in the rpm we step on the throttle. Between shifts there will be a % of loss due to inertial loading on hold and boost recovery time. The Mivec suppliments and partially "fixes" these issues while keeping you in the gear longer, all the while recovering faster on up shifts.
So in conclusion the setup on the 9 with both the upgraded turbocharger and Mivec control work to give us our cake and eat it too!!!

The only problem with a 9 is that you have Zero options for Cams at the moment. Sure the Mivec is sweet, but so are a nice set of aftermarket cams in an 8.

So Nick, would it be worth it upgrading to the IX turbo on the VIII's? Is the turbo making that much difference or is it the MIVEC?

PT tuning is already at the moment working on creating cams for the evo9, so I don't really see this being a problem. Don't forget the car is still relatively new to our shores so it will take some time before the 9 gets cams.
