Safe Boost levels for everyday driving
Safe Boost levels for everyday driving
Question1 : Is it safe to use 110 unleaded octane on a regular basis. I've decided to buy race gas instead of methanol injection.
Question 2: Is it safe to run a GT30R @ 28psi daily as well?

1) I've never heard of 110 unleaded, but if you can find it and afford it, then go for it. Yes, it is safe. If you really meant leaded, then it is safe, but it will kill your O2 sensor quickly...

Umm you must be rich.... 110 octane must be expensive. Methanol would be a better alternative but you would have to watch what you are doing (it can be dangerous). With 110 im sure u can run 28psi just as long as u are tuned for it.

Same as VP 109
The gas is from a Phillips 66 station in Illinois. Listed as 110 on the pump. To clarify, the tune is set to AFRs of 11-11.5 and timing has been set to the border of knock limits. AFRs and knock look identical to those of my pump gas map at 21psi. 110 is $4.25 and 93 is $2.70. I fill up once a month, so in my driving expectancy of the car I will save as opposed to Methanol injection. Not to mention the safety aspect of not going methanol. Who knows, maybe I will drive trhe car more often. 2003 with only 10k miles.
So is the consensus that my plans are ok?

I've asked several times to different clerks and they assured me it was unleaded. How do I verify it is unleaded?

I would do the same thing if I had a station like that, except that I would only do it if it was unleaded because of the O2 sensor. MAke sure it's not leaded...

VP calls theirs 109 from their research octane. Their motor octane is 101. Their R+M/2 is 105, or the average of Motor and Research.
F and L calls theirs 105. Their research octane is 110 and their motor octane is 100, but they go by the R + m/2.
it's illegal to sell leaded fuel at a gas station to the general public for street use. If it's a gas station that anyone can drive up to, fill up, and go, it's got to be unleaded.
I've never heard of 110 octane unleaded. That's a new one to me. Research octane isn't normally posted on the pump, (R+M)/2 is.
Make sure your timing tune is for the 110 octane. If it's for anything lower, the 110 will actually slow you down.

Called back and spoke to guy again and he was clueless between diesel and race fuel and (English). He put me on hold and asked someone who said it was leaded. There appears to be a language barrier here an I want to know a simple answer. Geeez. Oh well, for now I will not fill up again until I am sure its unleaded. No since in killing my wideband.
Found yet another post on web that references that station as unleaded.

You may want to get a hold of the manager or owner of the station to find out for sure. I can usually tell when I am runing leaded by the film left on the inside of my exhaust tip. 28 psi daily driver sure sounds like fun.
I always thought 104 was the highest unleaded but who knows
I'm starting to run 100 in mine all the time with 24/25psi (23 at redline) I'd say it would be safe as long as it's tuned!
