Also, the honeycomb holding the filter appears to be metal instead of plastic.

It's not plastic on mine, it's metal painted black

So does your friend sell just the filter?

I have the 'reloaded' kit for my Sti, and the MAF housing is done in a fairly clever way so that you don't have to re-tune. Is this so for the evo kit?

I'll get a picture up later.

He's actually in the process of trying to get the new HKS Reloaded kit and possibly just the filter, if there's a demand for it. These parts have not yet been released in the US, so he's trying to get these parts specially ordered from Japan. Don't worry i'll keep you posted. In the mean time you can check out the shops site: www.TeamCRD.com

I will have to check the name of the filter cover as I can't remember the name or where I got it since it was a while back.

This is what I meant:

Just before the MAF, it reduces in diameter. Afterwards, it opens up again.

This is the kit for the STI however, I don't know what it will be like for the evo.

p.s. in the kit i got, the mesh is metalic but it's not black (Racing suction kit, yellow filter element). Also I confirm that it's dry type.
