If the high flow cat has a bung for the secondary 02 sensor, you should not have a check engine light. If you are running a test pipe, to avoid a CEL you will need some sort of 02 emulator to fool the ecu into thinking there is a functioning catalyst. As far as using your stock cat with a 3" downpipe... that would depend on the downpipe. Most cat-back exhausts do work with the factory cat.

I hope that helps.

There's a few posts about using the "Help!" spark plug anti-foul bungs that you can purchase from any auto parts store. I think it's the 18mm units? I did this on mine running a resonated test pipe and so far no check engine light after 2,000 miles. It limits the amount of exhaust gasses the rear 02 sensor sees and prevents the check engine light. You'll need two of them. Drill a 1/2" hole in the second one so the 02 sensor will screw all the way in. Screw the two bungs together, followed by the 02 senor and screw the bungs/02 sensor into the rear 02 bung on the exhaust. Problem solved and all for under $10! Assuming you have a 1/2" drill bit and a drill
