For people who swapped to 10.5 hotside

Are the studs on the hotside reusable? Or is it a better idea to use bolts all around?
Also, BEWARE.... the oil feed banjo bolt snaps easily.

Good luck getting them out without destroying them. Just buy new ones for like 5 bucks. I just did this upgrade last friday and was going to use just bolts from the manifold to the hotside, but the bolts I had were too long for my aftermarket manifold.

actually, one of the bolts were too long for me also even with the stock manifold.
I actually just ended up cutting the bolt to size. Made sure the threads weren't touched and tourqed them all to spec.

Should be cool?

boost wont drop off as much with the 10.5 hotside, and is nothing drastic over an 03 turbo but becomes noticeable once ur car is modded! i cant put numbers on it without mods because it all depends on ur car!

The idea of using all bolts will allow you to remove the turbo in the future without having to remove the manifold.

The person who said studs are stronger, that is not a true statement. It's all in the quality of the fastener, not whether it is a bolt or stud.

if you're swapping hotsides, it's a cheap and easy thing to do, have a couple of extra factory studs ready to use in case you can't get the one's out of the stock hotside. Mine would not come out, I too my time, used penetrating lube, wax-on, wax-off motion, but no good. The studs eventually gawled, and they were stuck like Chuck. A couple of extra studs on hand made the install go according to plan, with no extra trips to the parts store to slow things down!

I was able to get both out by using two nuts to unscrew them like a bolt. I still switched to using bolts instead of studs.

I aslo removed the two studs that attach the turbo to the manifold and switched those over to grade 8 bolts.

I'm not sure what the peak gains are but midrange improvement is noticable. The install took me about 6 hours. It was a pain in the *** to get the 02 sensor out and in with the heatshield blocking the my view. If I have to do this job again I would cut a hole for the O2 sensor so I would remove the shield before removing the senor. I would also recommend removing the radiator. I didn't and ended up bending a few fins when my wrench slipped. Loss some knuckle skin as well.
