Anyone have problems with 20g?

I have had a ported TME 20g on my car now for a couple of months now (but only put 100-200 miles because of t-case failure). I took the car to AMS yesterday after I installed my TRE t-case complaining of a high pitched whine.

It turns out my 20g is shot, impellar is toast (hitting housing) and there is a lot of shaft play. When I installed the turbo I primed it and double checked everything. My intake was securly on and I don't see how anyting could have gone through it.

So has anyone had probelms with Buscher turbos? I havn't heard of anything go wrong with the 20g's, except for surging. I will be sending it back to Buscher in the near future to see what they can do for me. Hopefully they can re-fund me or re-build it.

-Dave

Well, I'm guessing I've got the only problem.

They told me to send it in which I did yesterday. I'll let you know what they do for me when they contact me.

I just had mine installed today in california and drove it home to las vegas

it has a terrible surging problem in fifth gear under heavy load i.e. going up hill and trying to pass other cars.

the boost gauge needle is jumping around like crazy and it doesn't stop until you let off the throttle.

I sure hope this is somthing that can be adjusted with a different waste gate accuator.

Where did you install it? Is it the 20g 8?

It cant be adjusted, the only solution is to shift at higher rpm, eg above 80-90PMH into 5th, otherwise surging. I had the same turbo, and Tried everything to get rid of the surge.

can someone more clearly explain to me what surging is? I've heard the term multiple times when reading about htis turbo but I never did get a clear idea of what that is.

I guess this is a turbo I should avoid in general if it has these sorts of problems for daily driving.

Surge is when turbo kicks air out from the intake part(where it suppose to come in from) and makes PSStpssSSt sound

Anyway on 20g8 turbo shiftin gat higher RPM will fix the problem. (EG you can floor in 5th gear when you have 2000RPM. 4000RPM will be ok.

when you floor the throttle @ 2000RPM in 5th gear and then abruptly lift the throttle you will get a "chuffing" type of noise. This is a practical example of surge in the stock turbo. Thier are a number of ways to address this and they have all been posted at length in the engine turbo drivetrain forum. Make your turbo desicion on more than one data point as he might have another problem with his set up.

Myself, I would go TME though.
